Wondered this too. From what i could find on reddit, dude said you need to specifically hollowfy your zampakto. The reason why ichigo couldn't have his stolen bc the hollow and his sword are 1 and the same. The visards essentially just have normal bankai but can turn there body into hollow. Idk how true this is as i found it off of reddit but it seems to check out

I'mma be real, Shinji's Bankai looked lame by comparison to how it was choreographed in the Brave Souls game. They coulda made that sequence looked better because his Shikai scene was way better. But hey, kudos to them showing it here since he never did that in the manga. Actually, I don't even remember him fighting like this in the manga either. Was the Shikai scene anime only too because I barely remember Shinji getting to do anything but get clapped in the manga which was one of the downsides to this arc. Hopefully we'll see the other Bankai used that didn't happen in the manga but was in that novel. Manga readers know the bankai I'm talking about so shhh.

Ichigo’s couldn’t be taken because it wasn’t a real bankai it was his Quincy powers. That being said I believe it’s because there’s still a divide between the vizards hollow and soul reaper powers. Yes.. I understand that theory. But what I’m questioning is during battle. At this point, Yama is dead and the Seireitei is “gone”, yet they still don’t use it. Then again at the grand scheme of things, they weren’t aware it was Hollow reiatsu and reishi that harmed Quincy directly. So whether it was honoring Yama and/or Central 46 orders or something hindering them from using it, Hollowfication wasn’t really an answer to the Bankai dilemma to them.

Quincy kill hollow cause that energy bad juju for them. Stole Bankai cause easier to kill captains that have it than it is to fight captains with their bankai with own quincy version of a bankai. So even with the new update it should be pretty even. Vizard captain still hasn't even put on his mask yet, and I'm wondering if the hollow energy from that will help him.

After watching the episode a couple of times, I felt they could've combined Shinji's Bankai scene with his Bambietta scene somehow. After he told Sajin to go on ahead, some random number of Soldat could've joined Bambietta because of her tantrum or they followed Shinji or whatever reason they can come up with. Shinji being surrounded would activate his Bankai to have Bambietta kill all the Soldat and explaining his Bankai thru her. Then he would face Bambietta 1v1 with his Shikai. Something along those line would've been a nice sequence.

His shikai is better in a 1 v 1 situation while his bankai is better in a group situation. If he just used his bankai while it was just her it wouldn't have as much on an effect which is why he was messing with her with his shikai and even taunted her to call her friends over.

Yeah but we never saw him got his taken anyways so there was more to it than that, regardless it’s just a cool little parallel I decided to point out, and like I explained with the other thing is it would drain them far too quickly if they were to use it in addition with their Bankai. As for why they stop using it all together, more than likely it’s just too draining all the same, so they just felt like it it’s not really worth it and more so a liability in the end now that they’ve been accepted back into the soul society. And It’s possible that the anime will address that last question as that I cannot answer.

The reason I bring up the Hollow mask is because although their Soul Reaper powers aren't Hollow like Ichigo, they can still Hollowfy them with their mask. We see Kensei take Shuhei outside the Soul Membrane to train him with a Hollowfied Mashiro. My question that I'm now wondering is if the Soul Membrane has some sort of restriction for Hollow Powers.

The thing is we never really seen him display his soul reaper powers other than his Shikai so this is fully embracing his soul reaper captain side in particular and it’s too much of a coincidence happening at the same time as both Toshiro and Soifon regain their Bankai with a Hollowfied boost so there’s most certainly a parallel there. Also to answer your question, Hollow mask drains energy quickly when figthing strong opponents. Mashiro's mask broke after only a few minutes of fighting Wonderwiess even though she can normally keep it on for 15 hours holding the record for having it up the longest. If they used Bankai and Hollow mask at the same time then their energy would drain even more quickly, if not almost instantly.

Exactly. In the second episode of S2, Haschwalth told the Sternritters to use stolen bankai to kill the bankai owners, per order of Yhwach. When a Sternritter questioned why that was necessary if the grunt soldiers could finish the enemy, Haschwalth said it was a matter of further demoralizing Soul Society by taking away their hope.

also granted, most sternritters are as strong as your average captain. If we go back that logic, taking away the main ability of the enemy and adding it to ur own even at the cost of being slightly weaker (since they cant use volstandigg and are not used to the bankai) its still worth because in the end, the enemy becomes weaker both physically and mentally

@Jeremiah - I mean, after "Doggy" helped his allies escape and left Shinji to fight Bambietta, I don't think there were any allies in the area. Of course, there's probably no point in using Shinji's bankai on a single enemy (unless it could trick Bambietta into committing suicide). But yeah, Shinji is unable to use his bankai around allies, so now isn't a good time. You're right about that. I mean, he technically COULD use it, but things wouldn't end well for his allies. Btw, I don't think OP was saying Shinji should use his bankai in more fights. I think he was saying the anime should have spent more time on that battle between Shinji and the grunt soldiers. As an anime-only scene, it doesn't need to follow the manga, so Kubo could have made it longer. If that's what OP was trying to say, I think we have to keep in mind that there's only a limited number of episodes. A longer display of Shinji's bankai could have been nice, but the enemies were nobodies... so it would have been unnecessary.

nothing... its not meant to reflect on each other. Shinji has accepted his Soul Reaper side, otherwise he wouldn't be a captain. What it did bring up is the question of why the Visoreds haven't hollowfied? Is it really just banned, or is there a restriction in place? The Visored Captains literally would just need to activate Bankai and their Hollow mask at the same time to avoid it getting stolen.

As for the reason why they stole the soul reapers bankai even though it would make them unable to use their volstandig, it’s because yhwach is petty and salty and thought it would be depressing and ironic if the soul reapers where killed by their own power. He’s still mad asl for losing that war 1000 years ago and doesn’t just want to beat the soul reapers he wants to humiliate them.

The first time we saw this was when ichigo was fighting the Quincy quilge opie in hueco mundo during the first cour. The Sternritter always had that ability, the Volstandig. Its the same one Uryu used against Mayuri in Soul Society arc (just more advanced version) and the same one Quilge Opie used against Ichigo when he was absorbing all the reishi. But you cant use both the Volstandig and bankai at the same time, Yhwach decided it would be ironic and cuz hes an asshole to have the ones who got their bankai stolen die by it too. But now that Urahara figured out a way to return it, Yhwach was basically like the shinigami are fucked regardless cuz his sternritters are still going to be more powerful in Volstandig anyways

A cool little parallel I noticed is while the Soul Reaper Captains gain a Hollowfied Banaki as a comeback, Shinji as the top Visored (being a Hollowfied Soul Reaper) reveals his Banaki finally acknowledging his Soul Reaper Captain side. Regarding the path that Ichigo is on: Izarusando = The Unapproachable Path. This training is completely anime original content and it seems to be foreshadowing to something big in the future in regards to one of the novels, which is where Shinji’s Bankai is exclusively from as it was also not shown in the manga. The novels getting adapted go beyond this arc which means this isn’t the end of Bleach as we know it. They’re cooking up a feast boys, bigger than the one that was made for Ichigo and Renji!
