Kaguya-Sama Movie Part 3

W Herthaka for that conversation

Comments

Gigachad behavior

シュモーク

Ey loving your homie is important too!

Aziouss

That's what happens when you live a facade with multiple personalities

William Morris

Shirogane definitely listened to what Hayasaka/Shinomiya said to him but he doesn't think that his weakness is something that anyone wants to see. He started to truly doubt himself when his mom left and when he actually put in effort people started to notice him and he accomplished a lot by adopting his confident persona so if he did reveal his vulnerabilities he's afraid someone close to him will leave him again. That kind of fear is hard to get rid of when you've been feeling for years.

Devin B

I saw this in theaters with my best friend. We're both straight dudes, it was Valentine's day, and practically everyone else in the theater was a couple. I don't regret a thing

Lawson Lowe

Perfectly said. This also applies to 8man.

such a good episode glad I saw this movie in theaters

lyssa

Yup. The scenes where Chika has to train him on things he can't teach himself are pretty hilarious, but after watching this movie, it's hard not to view Shirogane's struggles in a new light. Chika kinda plays the role of a mother figure for him, which is a dynamic I never expected.

Merfhew

didnt know kaguya and shirogane were part of the court of owls but it makes sense

DarquanJr

Lol! I don’t but I can see it! If I say who Hayasaka has the most chemistry with it might be spoilers lol. I think even before it was more of wanting to get to have a crush experience. I can kinda see how people can but at the same for me it’s clear they’ve become close friends which describes her opening up.

tiana britton

I agree, but also, I lowkey ship Hayasaka and Shirogane. And it's understandable why some people might get the wrong idea. Aside from Kaguya, the one who Hayasaka has opened up to the most has definitely been Shirogane.

Connor Grynol

bro half this movie is just a girl talking to herself

DarquanJr

Wait until you meet the Indian tour guide. I hope they adapt that chapter.

Connor Grynol

This episode was so damn good. Peak stuff right here. Love that we really got to dive deep into the psyche of both Kaguya and Shirogane. This series has the perfect balance between "rom" and "com," and A-1 Pictures does it so well.

JsnSkg

Nah, I don't agree with Sheera that it's on Shirogane to "man up". It's on both of them reveal to each other on how they feel.

Sixaxis112

You might notice that back in season 3, Shirogane was telling Hayasaka to not be afraid to reveal the "real" her. Personas seem to be a common theme among Hayasaka, Shirogane, and Kaguya and when any of them is telling to others to not be afraid to open up, it's not very convincing coming from a hypocrite. It resonates, but not to the degree that it could if they believed it themselves.

Connor Grynol

I feel like Shirogane is basically like "She says she wants to see the real side of me but she doesn't really mean that". It seems like just a major lack of self-esteem with the root of it being the situation with his mom. It's hard for him to accept the fact that somebody wants to see the vulnerable and more "pathetic" side of him since he's been conditioned to try to be the best at everything and show confidence.

Kami_Psy

I think it's interesting how the author made the gag about Shirogane being bad at everything a real issue for his character. He is ACTUALLY bad at everything he tries. That's why he has to work so hard at studying just to be able to beat Shinomiya. He's that awful at everything he tries. It's honestly heartbreaking.

Chimpman

Hikigaya energy lowkey. When he doesn't believe people would actually like him due to self deprecation due to past experiences.

Hello

Aka Hayasaka.

JsnSkg

At this point Ai doesn’t really have a crush on him. She’s really doing it as friends of them both!

tiana britton

dude is from Monster

Ale

the doctor looked like he in a whole nother anime lmao tf

KeYo

herthaka be carrying this relationship ngl

twinuzis

I can absolutely see why someone might think "Shirogane isn't listening" after watching this episode, but I think it's a bit more complicated than that. He definitely understood what Hayasaka was telling him; he's just unwilling to believe that someone could like the "real" him. When someone has held a negative view of themselves for a long time, it's really hard to break that train of thought. Likewise, when you've trained yourself to hold up a shield, it's hard to allow yourself to be vulnerable. Shirogane understands that Kaguya wants him to be his true self around her, but he doesn't feel safe letting down his guard. Due to the unresolved trauma in his life, he's attached his self-worth to perfectionism. At this point, no amount of texting through a third party will be enough of an assurance to make him change his mind. I'm reminded of Re:Zero and how long it took for Subaru to recognize that people actually care about him. From the outside looking in, it was obvious to the people around Subaru that he was loved, but no matter how many people showed him kindness, he still held on to his feelings of doubt and self-loathing. Kaguya finally had a breakthrough, but Shirogane's journey is still a work in progress.
