People like yourself always tend to criticize Bleach’s writing and point out it’s flaws more so than any of the other competing series or even just in comparison to the other 2 out of the Big3 and that’s what I was referring to. I understand what you’re saying and it’s objectively not true since Everything but the rain and the blade is me arc is perfectly well written and is the peak fiction of the highest degree in Bleach’s story, none of that was flawed if you truly understood it’s callbacks. The only part that was objectively poorly written the 2nd invasion in how bloated and rushed it was along with the ending, which will be more fleshed out this time around. Also yes, there is something wrong with being nothing but flashiness/style over substance, if you’re going to stick by that false narrative then maybe Bleach is simply just not for you and best to just stop watching it, it didn’t return after all these years to continuously still be slandered.

Bleach has never been particularly well written (again there's nothing wrong with something being more flash than substance) I don't know what this has to do with Bleachs contemporaries cause that has nothing to do with the arcs writing.

Objectively speaking, Most of the manga always had subtlety and nuance in the narrative up until the final 100 chapters or so which is due to when his health issues and other behind-the-scenes editorial influence started to get involved, it was never intentionally flawed or bad to the point of being straight up poorly written just for the hell of it, or as you say “style and action over everything else”. People need to stop talking about Bleach’s flaws like they’re worse than any of its contemporaries or like that even applies anymore with the anime, especially if you were to skip filler and even now when it’s in a better place than ever before.

Just to be clear my opinion on the writing in this arc has nothing to do with the action. The narrative is bad. Bleach has NEVER been about any subtly or nuance its always been style and action over everything else(and theres nothing wrong with that) but Bleach's biggest flaws are all at Max in this arc. It is poorly written regardless of the reasons. FULL STOP. If it wasnt he wouldnt need to completely revise or improve things now would he?

When you pay too much attention to the action you tend to forget the nuance in the writing inbetween it all. You choose to look at it is “convenient BS” but more than likely it was foreshadowed or at least makes sense. Also best believe there will be some rewrites, specifically more fleshed out for later in the arc as it’s being completely revised/improved by Kubo in better health.

Dude that image of Rukia rotting was something straight from Junji Ito. Between that and Yamamoto straight roasting Sternritter O, the animators are popping off. I also just love how a lot of the energies look different. Getsuga Tenshou, the Garganta. And Senbonzakura Kageyoshi just looked terrifying. Every single episode has been fire. I’m so glad they waited 10 years to make this. The current animation techniques and technology is giving this arc the treatment it deserves.

If I didn't know what was going on, i would imagine it's because it's kinda slow. Like don't get me wrong, A LOT is happening right now, but not at a pace that feels like you're being satisfied with each episode and there's a bunch of stuff that needs to be covered. Imagine the difference between getting to eat a pizza slice whole as opposed to a pizza slice that's been cut into inch by inch cubes. It's the same food, just not the same delivery. Also it's an old series, a lot has happened in the world of storytelling. That's just a guess tho

But yeah, I do agree Kenpachi is stronger than Byakuya, just this particular scenario isn't enough to 'close the debate'.

Ah that brings me back. The Kenpachi vs. Byakuya debates. It's one of those things where that type of match up is never meant to be because both of them are too strong and either one of them can be seen winning a death match. For me, I was team Kenpachi. I mean he can probably snack up all Byakuya's blades til he was reduced to bone and still come after his ass with one good swipe of the sword and Byakuya would be done if the plot debated him not to shunpo away.

I'm starting to think that Kubo developed a soft spot for Renji, cause the anime keeps cutting the jabs that were at his expense. lol In the anime, when Renji offers to fight Äs Nödt, Byakuya tells him to stay back and watch his abilities. In the manga, when Renji offers to fight Äs Nödt, Byakuya says, "It's hard to imagine you have the wisdom to expose the entirety of his ability." Same thing happened in last week's episode.  In the manga, when Byakuya told Renji not to hold back, Renji said something like, "...but, I'm not holding back." They cut that line out in the anime.

And there was a bit of censoring on Byakuya's body against the wall on his final scene. I remember in the manga he was just a big SPLAT but that was a dirty manga image. A cleaned up image showed his rib cage was partially exposed too.

Now keep in mind YAMA-GOAT-O is only fighting with 1 hand, just like Kenpachi without Kendo as his power is literally cut in half since their Reiatsu/spiritual pressure comes from both of a soul reapers wrists like Kisuke said in Ep 300 of OG Bleach.
