The star is the reason Jotaro knows. Jolyn, Pucci, and Jotaro can all naturally sense each other because of the joestar birthmark. That's how he knows that they met and that Jolyn is still alive (that's how Pucci also realized she was alive). Since she is alive from that hit she must've found a way to counter C-Moons power, but we don't know how until they find her.
