“What? Fine also became Dayke’s lover?”
The evening , Rize asked the question.
We were in an empty room in the royal castle, and she had just learned that my relationship with Fine had changed.
“…Yes. I should have asked your permission first, Rize. I’m sorry.”
After my sincere apology, Agnes, who was standing beside me, spoke.
“Neither Dayke nor Fine was confident in themselves, so I persuaded them.”
“I see…”
“I’m sorry, vice-captain…”
Fine’s timid voice came as she belatedly took a seat next to me.
Fine and I exchanged glances at Agnes’ unexpected words.
“Huh? Really?”
“Are you sure, Captain?”
“Come to think of it, I forgot to mention it before. Isn’t there a saying among humans that a hero can have a harem? Dayke is a hero who saved the kingdom, and considering his usual demeanor, we thought it wouldn’t be strange if he took another lover. We decided to accept it wholeheartedly.”
‘What do you think I usually look like?’
“Rize, am I right?”
“…Yes. That’s right, Captain.”
Agnes was confident that if she were in Rize’s position, she would accept Fine.
If I had told Rize in advance, I wouldn’t have had to worry about what to say. However, despite her promise to welcome me, Rize’s expression was not very bright.
“Rize, are you okay? You don’t look well…”
“Huh? No, it’s fine. I was just a bit surprised because I never imagined Fine would become Dayke’s lover.”
I completely agreed with her. I had also thought it was nonsense until last night.
As I was lost in thought, Fine moved closer and spoke in an embarrassed voice.
“I didn’t think it would end up like this”
Fine’s embarrassment made her end the sentence with an awkward laugh.
Rize couldn’t hide her surprise and only belatedly voiced her words to Fine.
“Yes, vice-captain! Please take care of me too!”
A bright smile spread across Fine’s face as she spoke loudly.
Agnes and I both smiled happily as we watched her.
Thanks to the disappearance of the demon king, who had dreamed of resurrection, and the gatekeeper, who had brought demons to Elora, the elf kingdom entered a period of peace like never before.
Of course, the Knights still remained, as there was always a chance that a new crisis could arise. Yet, the people enjoyed a relaxed and stable atmosphere.
Meanwhile, some remained as devoted to their duties as the Knights and their queen, Iril, faithfully.
Iril led the kingdom with the help of Dayke.
Although she had carried the weight of the crown, she quickly became accustomed to her responsibilities through her devotion to her people. As a result, her kingdom fully accepted their new queen.
Despite this stability, new worries arose for the queen whenever she found a moment of psychological comfort.
“Kiella! Please listen to me!”
One night, as the moon rose, Iril appeared at the Supreme Court Justice’s room without warning. She sat on the bed and shouted, demanding Kiella’s attention.
“…What is it?”
Kiella’s expression was far from pleasant.
From experience, she knew that on nights when Iril came unannounced like this, sleep would be impossible. And her serious expression made it clear this was no ordinary request.
“When on earth is Dayke going to confess to me?”
“…Yes?”
Out of sudden concern, Kiella asked again.
“Did you say you’re waiting for Dayke to confess to you?”
“That’s not it. Think about it, Kiella. If you count past lives, Dayke and I have known each other for a long time, right? At least in human terms.”
“Yes… well, from a human perspective, that would be true.”
“And we spend together regularly. Doesn’t that make us already lovers? But I don’t get the sense that Dayke is planning to confess at all.”
In fact, although Iril had not shown it so far, Kiella had expected that she might have feelings for Dayke.
There was no way an elf with a serious personality like Iril would get along with someone who had no emotions.
She had guessed that she was hiding her feelings out of embarrassment. However, she hadn’t realized quite how eagerly she was waiting for Dayke’s confession.
“Well… that’s…”
Iril had nothing more to say and stared at the floor.
Even so, the reason she had mentioned it was to advise her not to expect a confession automatically.
The gibbering Iril was speaking with sparkling eyes. She was trying to explain herself.
“I can’t say for sure, but I feel something special in Dayke’s eyes when he looks at me! Something deeper and hotter than when he looks at other elves!”
Kiella was certain.
Dayke’s kindness was not unusual, and the queen was only misinterpreting it because of her tightly guarded heart.
This wasn't to say that Dayke had no feelings for Iril. However, it was clear that waiting wouldn't change anything, as he had just said.
“If you feel that Dayke loves you, why don’t you confess first, Queen?”
Iril waved her hand at her suggestion.
“Oh, how could I do that! I’ve never confessed to anyone in my life… I’d probably burst before I could even say a single word properly.”
“Ah… Is that so?”
She wasn’t like other elves, and the queen herself admitted it would be difficult. It made it a bit hard for Kiella to continue encouraging her.
“Then I guess you’ll have no choice but to wait.”
Kiella concluded that the queen would return to her room and that she could finally go to sleep herself. But Kiella’s relief was short-lived.
“Kiella, when do you think Dayke will confess? He’s been acting sweeter these days, so I think…”
“Ah…”
“Now that I think about it, last time, Dayke…”
“Hmm…”
“Isn’t this a sign that the time is near? Ah, but now that I think of it…”
The story went on and on, seemingly endless.
Ultimately, Kiella's ominous premonition was realized when Iril arrived at her room and forced her to listen to her concerns all night.
Unfortunately, Iril’s counseling didn’t stop there.
“I almost fell in the hallway this afternoon, but Dayke, who was walking with me, caught me. I guess that means he’s been watching me all along, right? He can’t be far from confessing after all!”
“I had high expectations because Dayke said he had something important to talk about today. But it turned out to be about the cabinet meeting. Honestly, I was a little disappointed, but it was nice to see him working hard to help me.”
“I think it’s almost time, but there’s still no sign from Dayke. Still, I won’t give up!”
“Kiella… When will Dayke confess? He will, right…?”
Iril grew increasingly restless as the days passed.
Seeing how anxious the Queen was, Kiella, who couldn't refuse her, became increasingly exhausted.
Unable to recover from the fatigue of her work as Supreme Court Justice, dark circles began to form under her once-white eyes.
So when Dayke found himself alone with her in the conference room, he couldn’t help but notice her worried expression.
“Kiella, you seem to be having a hard time lately. What’s going on?”
“…”
When she tried to answer, her lips hesitated.
She wasn’t sure if it was okay to reveal her concerns without Iril’s consent. But if things continued like this, she felt like she would collapse from exhaustion before Dayke and Iril finally got together.
“Kiella?”
Dayke’s call felt urgent, as if something was wrong.
Eventually, Kiella decided to send him her rescue signal.
Enjoy!!
