Ep 119 - Wars of the Roses 3: Royal Hot Potato

patrons, please enjoy your ad-free edition of this week's regular episode. the next bonus episode will be out this Friday, it's part 4 of the book club series on Dante's Inferno.

this week we answer a question from David.

we're back with more wars and more roses. this time, the Yorkists finally take control of the conflict, depose the old king, and assume full regal power over the realm. they win some battles, the old king gets passed around like a royal hot potato, and Edward York finally makes good on his dad's play for the throne. of course, the Yorkists squander it due to petty infighting, broken marriage pacts, and power politics, but it's fun while it lasts, right?

Comments

I feel like the Yorkists could learn a thing or two from Pyrrhus of Epirus. Pursue your victories instead of letting them get away. Idk

Your discussion about bodily integrity and relics made me think again about Umberto Eco's novel Baudolino, where a group of Mediaeval Guys fund their "road trip" to the Kingdom of Prester John by selling relics along the way -- specifically 12 heads of John the Baptist. They figure as long as they sell them far enough apart, it won't cause problems for them, and no town is going to want to admit that their John head is not the real one. Just a fun silly Mediaeval adventure novel.
