The FDA is revisiting safety concerns around breast implants. Between March 25th and 26th, they held a two-day safety hearing to discuss the risks associated with textured and smooth breast implants. This came after an investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) revealed the hidden dangers of silicone breast implants and their association with Breast Implant Illness (BII) and Breast Implant Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).
As a result of the investigation, France, Italy, Germany and most recently, Canada, have pulled a certain type of textured silicone breast implants from their markets citing the need for more research and data.
In today’s video, we talk about why the product has not been banned in the US and what steps are being taken instead to inform and educate the public.
