Maybe it’s different for basketball, but seeing a slightly different version of your shot a couple times has zero chance of overcoming that mind/muscle connection if you are at the level these guys are. But it’s an anime, so it’s all good.

In Haizaki's case, “Hai” is spelled with a kanji meaning “ash”. I think that's one of the reasons the author changed his hair after he left the team.

But when you see other people doing your moves, but a bit differently (e.g. rhythm + tempo), it does affect you subconsciously and it messes with your head a bit. Like you start thinking about other ways your ability can be improved or used and your opponent does it better. If it happens in the middle of the game, you start to hesitate/double yourself, which causes you to go out of balance and you start to make silly mistakes.
