Regarding the next phase, I've found that PayPal has a way to run donation campaigns, so that's where it'll be done. Nothing external, and therefore something more reliable and direct. Once the amount is reached, it will stop, you'll be able to see the progress, and most importantly, you can donate any amount you want, there's no fixed amount.
