A MMORPG player gets trapped in his game and becomes this OP almost god like leader. Instead of a story where someone becomes strong this guy is already the strongest person to begin with.

Sometimes I wonder if it's just what people are initially exposed to and are used to. A lot of people like the DBZ dub, and I also think it's fine. But I would always prefer to watch it subbed because that's what I watched first. To me, there's just something about the expressions in Japanese that aren't always captured in another language. But anyway, whatever you prefer is the best. These are your experiences after all, and we're just here for the ride.

I think the best approach is watch some of the scenes back to back in sub and dub (after you've reacted authentically to whichever wins) and see if the scenes feel the same or you prefer it more in one over the other. It's a little bit of work but considering how long the show is it's worth experimenting. I almost always watch a few episodes in sub and then will watch some of the scenes from the episodes in dub (like the more emotional or tense scenes or crucial scenes) to see if the same feeling carries over or if its better/worse and then decide to stick with one.

Ikr. I've watched Bleach after Naruto and notice how literally all the VA's from Naruto voice characters from Bleach too. Same dubbing cast. Love how Kenpachi's voice is like a slightly evil sounding/more badass Jiraiya lol but yeah so many great VA's. I find it so dope when reaction channels watch Naruto first dub and then do Bleach dub (or vice versa) and hear so many familiar voices they recognize. The Normies for example, same with RTTV but they didn't notice as many voices as Normies

I think cyberpunk sounds A LOT better in dub than sub, so since that is in the pipeline you could give that a shot. I believe the dub version was made before the jp version as well (cuz its made for american fans in mind)

It's hella funny since its dubs vs subs for like Spongebob and King of the Hill. Anyway, I think you two should watch how you want to watch any anime; whether that be in Japanese or English. In the end, your enjoyment is most important. BUT! @Phil K To give you an example (that might be controversial), Yu Yu Hakusho. I grew up with the English dub and it was my bread and butter, my whole teenage life, I hella loved it (and still do!). But then I learned Japanese, and came back to watch it in Japanese, and got a very wildly different interpretation of a few of the characters, in particular, Yusuke and Hiei. They "punched up" or "spiced up" their lines so much, that they became completely different characters in English whereas in Japanese, they are much more subdued.

Truthfully ima huge fan of dub anime but also love sub anime … some anime feel different depending on if it’s subbed or dubbed .. so if I were you guys I would watch the first episode in dub and subbed and see which voices you prefer better and go from there … I watched AOT subbed as it came out then just watched it all in dubbed recently and certain scenes I felt more emotion and surprise from the subbed voices versus dubbed .. but the Dubbed AOT was really good as well

The thing is, in Japan they audition for their roles which is why they fit the role so much better. Like they do in Hollywood. Crunchyroll does not. I know many of their members and they are assigned roles and sometimes its roles they are not even enthusiastic about. Which is why the subs seem to have some more emotion behind them. Lets not even get into the whole woke thing which is another whole discussion.

Seems like I am a so called « arrogant and toxic sub-only with superiority complex  » … I'm a Senegalese, raised speaking French and I learned Spanish. While fluent in English (with always room for improvement), I've watched anime in three of these languages, as well as the original versions in Japanese, Chinese, or Korean (subbed). Each time, I've found the original version superior. It's not that foreign voice actors aren't good enough, but every language carries its own richness of culture and nuances that can't be fully translated. And that's not even considering interpretation. Regarding subtitles versus dubbing, I believe there's no need to enforce either. Let Rice and Ginger choose how they want to experience it.

It does nothing but bring up a pointless argument, and make humanity as a whole look like trash. I understand that you want to give everyone a chance to vote, I really enjoy this channel and want you to succeed. I'm subscribed to other reaction channels, and let me tell you. One of the people I subscribed to who watched a lot of anime all sub, decided that they wanted to try an anime dub. Just to see if they would like it now. Because it had been years since they last tried dubbed anime, they ended up liking the anime. And decided to continue the reaction in dub, they lost half of his subscribers within a week. I watch both sub and dub, I grew up on dub because I couldn't read and keep up with the anime when I was younger. I do very much love and respect the English VAs, and today when an anime releases. I will start the sub if a dub releases for it I will go back and watch the dub, I found that I love doing that. Because I get to watch an anime 2 times and get a slightly different experience between the 2. As for me, if I'm watching a reaction from a creator. And I prefer the anime they are reacting to in dub. I simply pull up the reaction on my laptop and have the anime play in dub on my t.v. I find that most creators have their anime audio at a lower level. So that they can talk and still be heard, so it makes listening in dub easy. I do apologies about the long winded speech, it's just I really hate the sub vs dub debate. I think if you truly love anime, and want it to thrive. Then it doesn't matter what language someone watches it in, you should be thrilled that what you love is getting more recognition. That will lead to more popularity, that will lead to more of what you love.

not sure what your even saying here, Didnt even watch anime when i was a child except dragon ball. Its the fact I understand the emotion in the language when spoken. Unlike hearing it in a language i dont understand and everything is blurred. I dont think its alleviating the pain its just making it worse lol. lame, corny think what you want. Same back to you. The reason people are passionate about the sub is because it is generally speaking always way better. The story telling just does not hit the same with sub often times. So they want others to have a great experience. Watching one Piece in dub for instance ruins the whole Story. It is horrible in comparison... All im saying is both versions, its a scream fest on Astas (MC) part. The dub VA screaming is like a cat being strangled. Id be probably go with sub purely cause of that. 3 episodes back to back and I was getting a headache from the horrible screeching voice on the dub. Although sub screeching is not much better. Depends what pitch of horrible screech you can handle better. The other characters are a mix of which are preferable. Theres a character called Yami who is a captain of one of the teams and I like his VA for dub although I mostly watch subs for all stuff.

i don't recognize them either, and not cause i am trying to focus on reading i just don't hear them like big names that are more recognizable in dub. i always watch both dub and sub usually dubbed first but if sub is the only one released before dub then i will watch in sub first. but i typically prefer dubbed alot of the time cause i prefer the english voices for characters more. like All Might for dubbed as much as the sub All Might is really good it just doesnt compare to Chris Sabat as All Might. especially if the main character has a really annoying high pitched voice like Goku and Inuyasha in subbed omg i cant stand them. and as much as Yami's subbed voice is really good i like it, it just isn't as good as Chris voice for Yami

I usually am a dub enjoyer, but the Black Clover VA's just didn't do it for me. I would be fine with some of the other anime's though. Some of the more complicated to follow ones that have interconnecting storylines. Dub and Sub both have their own charms so I'll be watching either way.

Am I the only one that doesn't actually speak english or japanese natively? Seeing a lot of people argue Dub vs Sub and so many arguments that I just can't relate lol. There's only 2 things that really matter in either Dub or Sub. The performance of the VAs and the capacity to understand and follow along of the viewer. If the understanding of the viewer through subs is deemed acceptable by the viewer for what they would consider a better performance. More power to them. In my case, regardless of language, I always have subtitles ON anyway. Most of the time I prefer Subs. It doesn't mean that Dubs are horrible. I could go in a lot more detail about my own opinions but, let's be real. I ain't going to change any minds for either the Subs elitist or the Dubs apologist. And I believe most of us are decently balanced individuals, but there's just so few of us willing to write. 🤣

As someone who is a translator I always prefer sub (it’s my job 😂) but I think dubs can also really be fantastic. Cowboy bebop for example. So I don’t really care what people watch, it all comes down to preference. Things will naturally get changed in localization regardless

I think I first watched in the dub and remember liking it a lot! Wish more people enjoyed it haha I also like being able to eat while watching/ take my eyes off the screen if I need to for a second and not miss anything. But that’s just a preference of mine. I guess you're saying someone who reads slow/regular speed is synonymous with not being a good reader which isn't necessarily true. Some people just read faster than others. It has nothing to do with not being a good reader, this simply just comes with dealing with sub. Like I said numerous of reactors I've witnessed who obviously can read who've been on YouTube for a very long time who normally watch sub, sometimes will miss something and have to rewind because subtitles for a fact can go too fast. Even Ron and Michelle rewind and its nothing wrong with that. That's like saying reactors are bad readers because they can't give out their thoughts while watching. It's a reason Ron and Michelle pause the show to talk and give their thoughts, so they don't miss anything. And at times you can't distinguish people's voices especially if its two high pitched female Japanese VA's they usually sound the same. Sub, trust me, you really need to hear the original Asta VA, it's needed for the true Black Clover experience. I'm general, sub will work out better than dub, as with dub they have to sometimes form strange sentences to fit with mouth movements that have shorter or longer duration. It often messes with dialogue. There's a few dubs that are decent alternatives, like Edgerunners, and 1 dub above all others, Ghost Stories. There's actually no reason to watch the Ghost Stories sub at all, the dub is supreme and completely revamps the dialogue.

After watching your reaction the other day to pain dub I would say just do dub since you both enjoyed that idea of being able to focus more on the details and what's taking place. I end up watching sub because I watch shows as they release and don't want to wait. But beyond that the only other reason to watch sub is because you're a purest and want to be able to say you watched it in sub, which doesn't even mean anything because it's just a translation of a different language through a lot of times very american people that don't always get the context 100% correct anyhow. I personally give every dub a chance at least in my second time watching a show. But in over 90% i'm switching back to sub, because it's so much better, imo. Maybe the reason is that we grew up in different places. In Asia, there are usually subtitles, even when Japanese people watch anime. As for you saying that dub is more convenient for English users because there is no need for subtitles, I completely agree with this. That is why I voted for dub, and they are still relatively new to anime. But this is not a reason for dub to surpass sub. It can only be said that it is more convenient. The following are two points why I think sub is better. 1) There are honorifics in Japanese. Japanese honorifics are expressions of respect in Japanese. They are used to express the social relationship between the speaker, the person speaking, and the characters in the words. Relationships such as class, intimacy, etc. And this does not exist in English grammar. 2) There are characters in FMAB's sub who use different accents and regional dialects to distinguish where they come from. For example, May and Ling will feel like they are Chinese speaking Japanese. In fact, both dub and sub are very good, and their difference is only Depending on the details, I would give sub 10/10 and dub 9.5/10. What I don’t understand the most is why many dub lovers like to disparage sub. A good anime can become a masterpiece that everyone knows, Japanese VA plays a big role in it. Why not love both?

Is funny cuz is always the Sub diehards that have an issue. While we don’t care if it’s on Dub or Sub. I say they enjoy the show and watch it how they wanna watch it. I honestly prefer the Dub for Black Clover and few other rare anime’s and I mostly watch most of my anime in Sub. I agree, that’s what I love when an anime’s Dub version is better. I can watch without being distracted. I started watching Anime only in Dub, then I started watching only on Sub, just cuz I like listening to it in the original language, so yeah I find myself missing a lot. I go back to my favorite anime, Steins Gate. I watched it in Dub and it got me in the feels so hard. Then I rewatched it in Japanese and it didn’t hit me as much. You are able to connect to it so much better by watching in Dub, just cuz it’s the language you already speak and understand. Subtitles are distracting and inaccurate for the most part. Not saying that Dub is accurate to what the writer intended, but it’s is way better than missing visuals information. Some times the subs go so damn fast too. But yeah. I enjoy both ways, Sub or Dub, but Dub is so much enjoyable to me, I just wish all anime’s would have good dub versions. Congrats on the streak btw! I gave up on Duolingo long ago sadly, was getting so good lol life got too busy sadly.

I could do that, but since it is not a thing I'm interested in (since I haven't heard anything about it that has caught my attention), I only thought of watching the first episodes now that they are watching it (watching it with them might make it more enjoyable) and if it picks my interest in those first episodes, I'll continue watching it with them. I think watching reactors is a great way to get to know things you wouldn't normally watch by yourself.

I'm on a 226 day japanese duolingo streak for the record, and I still GENERALLY prefer dub for the reason that i can engage more of my brain in the act of watching it. Watching sub when you can't understand spoken japanese, you just lose information, plain and simple. @Rockcitygirl you cant just narrow it down to that reason alone of they are bad/slow readers. I'm a fast reader and still find sub annoying. I've seen numerous reactors including Rice & Ginger who are clearly know how to read and are fast readers tens to miss the subtitles as they go to fast and have to pause/go back. I've seen a lot of reactors do that and that's what's annoying about sub. Ron even mentioned in the Pain speech dub post of the obvious advantage of watching in dub. You can watch and know whats being said + seeing all the visuals as you don't have to constantly look down the read. Then it can be two characters talking at the same time and two different sentences show up which is hard to catch. Also some people are just bad at multitasking so dub is the way to go for them

I mean you're doing the exact thing you're accusing them of here. I find it's more like keyboard vs controller on fps games. They each have advantages and disadvantages. Dub often has c-list talents trying their best who miss the tone alot or don't understand something about the scene. Sub is way easier to process and watch as a secondary activity and pay attention to action scenes and such. A lot of the time the English va is spot on and the actor is nailing it and it's just fine so nothing is 100%. But as I see it you're kinda gambling on a sub being decent and it sucks to be 5 episodes and decide to switch over and then wonder if you weren't getting the tone in a bunch of scenes etc.. Where as the Japanese va is never going to be "incorrect" for the show. That said the whole sub vs dub elitism in either direction is dumb.

For me I find the English va's just lack enthusiasm and understanding of the tone of a lot of scenes. It's super painful when the English va is clearly missing the vibe in a scene. Also often the Japanese va's are professionals that specialize in anime va and understand the material better both culturally and story/pacing wise. While the English va's are c list people got for the lowest bid (outside of big stuff like certain films) doing their best but obviously struggling.

First off I'm sure they get permission to change if they do. Otherwise the rights to do the dub would be pulled from the company. Second, I've never seen something changed that really mattered. Also, I watched AOT in dub and there were like 2 parts that were laugh out loud funny to me by Hange. When I watched the sub reaction they didn't even get a smirk and I didn't find it funny at all. The chance was slight word play, but enough that it was funnier since they speak our language and get what we would find funny. Just my opinion.

Most people that are hardcore sub are just that way because they grew up weebs who wanted to live in japan, never bothered to learn japanese themselves, and never tried to watch dub anime because their friends are also fanatic weebs. So I figured we could take one for the team and let the DUB enjoyer get a W for once. Cause you can probably count on 1 hand the anime that most people would chose DUB over SUB. Team Sub! One reason I'm not too big a fan of Dub, is not the voices, per se, but rather the translations. There are often inconsistencies in translation, especially if you were to do Dub w/ subtitles, then the inconsistencies are even more apparent. I also use subtitles when watching anything in English because there are always the occasional garbled words that need some clarity. IMO, Japanese tends to be much more adept in VA, and as I understand that some English VAs can be great... Most of us are probably attached to the Japanese voices tied to these characters. ALSO, it's fun to recognize a VA and to find out what else they've done. Nonetheless, no matter your choice, I look forward to rewatching the series with you guys.

Lol there are plenty of objective measures to voice acting performances. As there are in all forms of art, if you understand it well enough. The original audio sources are almost always better for anime because they have a much higher budget. The Japanese dedicated voice-acting scene is also exponentially bigger and more popular than it is for Western animation. I could go on but I'm tired of typing

Then why does their voice always sound the same? Like if 1 Japanese VA does 3 people from 3 shows, it always sounds the same. There are some english VAs like that too, but there are a lot of really talented engish VAs that it's like wow. This character doesn't sound even remotely like their other ones. I watched DB-Z and super in Dub but also did sub and did the same with FMAB so yeah they are both good in either form just choose what you want. The sub and dub for DB in general are iconic cus most people started on DUB back in the day on toonami and eventually tried the sub and fell in love with both. Masako Nozawa who voices Goku in sub is such an amazing VA who has been doing it since 1986 and she is currently 87 she is a national treasure. Also if you watch sub you will also hear Luffys voice actor who i won't give away which character they are.

it is objectively better it’s written in Japanese and made for that language the dub doesn’t get across the same nuances as the language it’s written in. It’s the same for movies.

@Phil K Because the Japanese training for voice acting is insane compared to ours. They are just better at it for the most part. Plus, some lines in anime are very cringe if heard spoken aloud, so simply reading the cringe and hearing the emotion but not the words pretty much nullifies the cringe.

I know sub is the normally the way to go, but there are great dub adaptations. Black Clover is one of those that is great dubbed. I highly recommend the dubbed version.There’s nothing wrong with liking one version over the other of any anime, or just enjoying both.

For this anime I preferred the dub but for this one in particular it doesn’t matter as much since both are good. I found Asta’s voice slightly more tolerable in the dub starting off, but the sub VA does get better. (It was his first role)

For English users, I think dub is undoubtedly better because it is easier to understand the emotions. Dub also performed well in this show. But as a Japanese and English speaker, I would say that sub can be closer to the original meaning and bring out the intonation that is unique to Japanese, thus being closer to the character's personality.

Hear me out. No hate involved. Most media consumed in US is originally created in English and thus there is no need for dubbing. Americans seem to still think that dubbing is equal to voice acting, and it's not, those are different things and that's why English dub is decades behind in quality. That's a fact we'll known by dubbing professionals around the world. Better keep up with sub and original audio.

Sub is always gonna win on a sub vs dub poll no matter what, it's a given. I do remember people used to not like Asta in sub, said he was so annoying and was screaming too much and it didn't sound good, so sub isn't always perfect. Black Clover has a great dub though, but looks like we're doing sub which is cool. Not complaining nor am I shitting on the sub (just bringing up Asta is all), looking forward to Black Clover. Whenever FMAB comes I hope they watch it in dub. If its a poll for it I feel sub will win which is no surprise, but it may be super close since a lot of people love FMAB in dub.

I think you should watch Black Clover in sub. In my opinion it is still better than the dub version. Yeah, at the beginning the VA of the main character might annoy you a bit because he screams a lot, but that's only the case at the beginning. And I also think the only reason the VA was like that because that was his first role as a voice actor, or at least one of his first roles

I’ve listened to dub and sub, I personally like sub better for black clover. For instance, dragon ball Ik dub is way better, sub was weird bc of how high pitched Gokus voice was. It wasn’t bad but Goku’s dub VA is amazing. For Naruto, I loved dub more than sub bc I’m hearing and seeing every detail of what’s happening. Madara, Jiraiya, Might Guy, Sasuke, and believe it that Naruto too have awesome VA’s.

Main Character's voice actor in the sub had never been a main character before. He starts off a bit shaky, but ended up winning "Best Voice Actor" awards. And the rest of the cast is on point as well. The dub is good too, though, so if you go that way you won't be going wrong. But I do think the sub is a level above here.
