It's because shadow clones are actual physical entities, so they leave a shadow. regular clones are just images, like ghosts basically

This is nice explanation and all. But i wouldn't look into it too much, and just let clones be a plot armor for diversion and substitution. Why i'm saying that? Naruto is full of plot holes, and if i'd dig into all the fights in the whole show, i'd probably find a lot of situations where the non-shadow clones, used jutsus.

Agree on the shadow part, From my understanding the naming would've fit, if it only "shadowed" or copied your moves. Zed's clone is a good example of it. I'm not sure why it would be named shadow clone, beside shadow/dark themes meaning deception, and that's the original purpose/what it's meant to be used for.

Just some Japanese tidbits: "Foundation" is written with the kanji of "Root." So that's the kind of Foundation the name refers to. Shadow Clones, or Kage Bunshin, are much older than Naruto. The ability to create an exact copy of yourself which can move and interact with things on its own is old folklore about ninja. The summoning of giant toads and substitution with wood or hay are also common folklore ninja techniques. Since the show makes up its own sand clones and stuff, the shadow clones kind of stand out, but they're just being accurate to folklore.

well the reason they aren't just called clones is because of the variety of clones we've already seen. From water clones by Zabuza to Sand Clones by Gaaraa it's just one form of the clone jutsu (maybe cloud clone lol). And btw the term "clone" alone refers to non physical clones like the entrance exam.

So the ANBU is split. The vast majority of the ANBU is a black ops unit that reports directly to the Hokage. Danzo however is one of the upper echelon of the Leaf Village leadership (along with the Hokage and the 2 advisors) and has his own ANBU military sect that reports only to him. That's what the Foundation is. Yamato is from Tsunade's ANBU which is why she trusts him to replace Kakashi. Sai is from the Foundation which Tsunade has no intel on and he reports only to Danzo, not the Hokage. That's where the conflict of interest is. They said it in this episode but Danzo was also against the 3rd Hokage's ideals and clashed heads with him when it came to how to run the village. That's why Tsunade doesn't trust him. There's a lot of politics behind the scenes

yeah not really spoilers but shadow clones and clones are different. clones dont have chakra and cant really do much but misdirect. shadow clones is actually a forbidden jutsu made by a hokage that seperates ones chakra into a certain amount of clones. thats why most people cant make shadow clones like naruto. they dont have the chakra to lose wasting it on the clone. you lose the chakra when they pop but gain the experience the clone had as your own. its a big thing but like i said no spoilers its not really much of a story aspect. just things you learn from studying the show.

She said she would select someone she trust to replace Kakashi on the team to protect Naruto during the mission and monitor Sai(who Danzo selected to have him join Team Kakashi). Those two old people talking to Tsunade are the Hokage advisors. They’re the elders of the Village and are the people who choose the next Hokage’s, they’re also same age as the 3rd Hokage and were apart of his 3 man squad when they were kids. They aren’t related.

They're called shadow clones because they're "true shadows" of the original user, basically when someone makes a water or a sand clone or something like that, they do so with a fixed amount of chakra, they have limited utility, and people generally use them as an addon for a standard substitution jutsu. But naruto is basically able to make "true" copies of himself and just divides the chakra up between them, so its like the clones are shadows of the caster. That's what makes it a forbidden jutsu, because if you do it incorrectly or make too many clones, you run out of chakra and die

Hey you guys once again, I just wanted to say you should watch the intro's and outro's 14-15 episodes in. It really takes away from the effect if you watch it after the show ends. Also the first three filler seasons have important details. I think you should watch specific clips or maybe a 5 minute video that explains those filler arcs. I won't say anything but they give A LOT of information about present characters and future characters.
