I was confused about this part too. i remember what patchface said about idle transfiguration, how the soul and body are interwoven, and he manipulates the shape of the soul to change the shape of the boy. With toji, i think because of his heavenly pact probably and his heightened senses, his body (detached from the soul) was able to override the grandson's soul, and the grandson affectively died, and Toji rebuilt his missing soul using the grandson's soul. So in my head, Toji's original soul is still dead, but he rebuilt it after overpowering the grandson

Toji body got copied over the grandson body while the grandson soul was still there. The body of toji destroyed the soul of the grandson tho and now either its only a functional body of toji without the ORIGINAL soul in it, purely acting on how the real toji would, basically autopilot/ai OR toji put his own soul into the body after destroying the grandson soul, without the granny's help. In the end, the granny didnt do anything with Toji's soul, the only brought the body, the rest toji did himself.

When I first saw this part with Toni’s body, my first that was like the myth or I guess folklore maybe of back in ancient war times when like warrior who had strong warriors spirit, though they had been killed their body would still fight in a little longer, or like even when they would fall in battle they would still have that death grip on their weapon. And like I was thinking that sort of principle was applied to toji where like his body is just I guess of it’s own being that it doesn’t need a driver per day and that it can live on it’s own and another person soul simply just can’t coexist. Ok listen here I’ve seen most of the comments and I’m a manga reader so let me explain and this is going to be long so try not to get confused and I’ll answer any questions anyone has to the best of my knowledge ok so basically Old Hag summoned the information of Toji’s body so that her grandson could have toji’s physical body and she did not summon toji’s soul because the souls would battle for control but Toji having that dog in him took over the grandsons soul with his with just his body now what might be confusing Michelle is that how can a body move without a soul and that’s where this big debate comes into play in the JJK World what came first the body or the soul can the body exist without the soul and can the soul exist without the body and this is where things get confusing because of what we’ve seen in the show so far Mahito has the curse technique of soul manipulation which affects the soul so when he changes his souls form he changes his physical body which leads him to believe that the soul came first and the body second which means the body forms around the soul now when we see the curse inside of geto’s body geto although he’s dead his body moved on it’s own when gojo told him to stop letting the curse use his body leading the curse to believe that the body came first and the soul second because the curse stated that in all the bodies that curse has been inside of none of them have ever moved on their own which clashes with Manito’s idea of the soul and body now like with getos body and toji’s body are the body and soul seperate or are they intertwined because that does leave the question if geto and toji’s body didn’t have their souls intertwined how is it that their body’s are moving on their own and like with toji how is it that he has consciousness when it’s only the body that was summoned does that mean that the body and soul are the same thing meaning you can’t have one without the other that’s is still a debate to this day cause we can come up with our own conclusion because it hasn’t been fully conclusively stated in the manga which one is true so hope that explains it damn that was long

Regardless Tojis’ soul is dead that’s why he said his body is special because he’s existing without his soul being in the realm of the living and it’s basically just driving off of the grandson soul that he took over

The Granny only brought back Toji's body so that her grandson took on Toji's appearance and could use his strength and speed, however Toji's body alone is so strong that the body alone defeated the grandson's soul. And actually this scene is really interesting because remember, Mahito always talks about what came first, the soul or the body. In Season 1, Mahito says that in his opinion the soul came first and that the body forms around the soul. But based on this scene with Toji, you could also assume that the body comes first and the soul forms in the body. And Michelle suspected that Granny had accidentally brought back Toji's soul, but no, she didn't, she really only brought back the body. In a way, you could say that Toji's soul reactivated by itself because his body came back

It's not that hard to take some criticism of a series, even if you like it. The animators working on the show itself have been calling this shit out. You can like/enjoy the episode but to think it's fine from a production standpoint is mad. If this happened on a main Madhouse, Ufotable or WiT show they would be flamed and dragged through the mud. This episode was not it from a production standpoint, the CDs were all over the place with some spotty animation and SB/ED for a show of this magnitude. At least the Frieren episode this week is shaping up to be really good.

As what everyone else is saying, Michelle is wrong: All the grandma did was give Toji's body and strength to the grandson, NOTHING ELSE. Remember what he ate? A piece of Toji. Now remember real Geto trying choke fake Geto? "The body is the soul and the soul is the body." That was foreshadowing. The anime pretty much summed up the manga there with some narrations taken out, but the main point was there Toji is an anomaly, even amongst heavenly restriction users (or at least what we know), hence why he was able to overpower the grandson's soul with just the body

About Toji situation, the granny only channeled his body information (meaning his body's ability and strength). If you look back to the first few episodes of this season, it is explained that he is not like other sorcerers, basically, he's an anomaly in the sorcerer world. He has the heavenly restriction/pact (it's kinda like he trades curse energy with super strength). In short, he's an anomaly that doesn't go by the rules, and there are only a few people like him. A different case of heavenly restriction/pact is Mechamaru. Mechamaru's got a great deal of curse energy, but his body is deteriorating.

Small detail I noticed while watching this episode. When Nanami was punching the guy he would lose one of his purple markings on his face. So like when he said "I died" there was one less marking and every time Nanami punched him another one disappeared. He's probably got extra lives like a game or something similar.

Forgive me for little rant because I'm so frustrated this time. To be honest, this episode was one of the worst in jjk anime adaptations 🥲 They used too much resource for Nanamin at the end and didn't put effort at all for the rest. I heard from the sub animator that they got the 2nd drawing requests (the detailed drawing after 1st drawing) 12 hours before the deadline, which is impossible...means the main director didn't have time to fix the drawings from animators. That makes sense because there weren't many close up shots especially Toji and Mei Mei, there are many important manga panels that showing their facial expressions shots but the director chose to do far away shots, because close up shots need to be fixed before finalized to make sure the quality for face features are the same for different animators. It's okay to do different shots than manga if it's for animation purpose, but I don't think so, because all those shots were just still shots like a powerpoint slide, not even a decent animation 🥲 As for some close up shots like Nobara and Yuji, the quality is soooo bad, the nose and face shapes changed a lot, not to mention the mouth doesn't move the same as the dialogue. Even though MAPPA is a good company, they can't maintain the same quality, this time not even in one season but in one episode, so disappointing. It's common to use different anime directors and different animators for each episode, but what's the point of having a chief anime director if they can't fix the quality, this one was really bad 😭 Way better in the manga fr....

It's like "Geto" was saying a few episodes ago when his body reacted to what Gojo said. "The body is part of the soul, and the soul is part of the body." That was pretty much a mini explanation for Toji overcoming the grandson's soul despite the Granny trying to only bring his body. Also not sure but I think Toji's heavenly restriction also plays a part in it, hence "my body is special"

I am not a manga reader. Just going off of what was in the episode with the Geto reveal, it was established that in this show, the body and the soul are intertwined. It was implied that the body has elements of the soul in it. I think that was done to set up for this Toji revival. I took that scene as saying that she only summoned Tojis body for her grandson to control but Tojis body is so OP, its soul forced itself through. I dont think she summoned his souil during the seance. Thats how it looked to me, at least.
