The Diary Horcrux, his first Horcrux, houses half of his entire soul, and the only reason we could even 'see' him was because he was draining Ginny Weasley's life force and making it his own, so he was becoming tangible as a person instead of staying as a soul inside a diary. (Sorry, I'm a huge HP nerd... Hehe)

If the show is slowly feeding the audience a trail of breadcrumbs instead of just announcing the full loaf of bread, don't you think there's a reason? Shows like Re:Zero and Attack on Titan will often sprinkle pieces of information throughout the story in such a way that most people won't notice everything during their first watch-thru. I know how exciting it is to talk about the shows you like, but with all due respect, please be mindful of the fact that some of us wish to experience future reveals organically.

2023-09-15 23:59:33 +0000 UTCBit late but to add a bit to this (and why it's not a spoiler), they tried to get this idea across through just the animation but it flies over almost everyone's heads. During the flashbacks of Beatrice and Roswaal's past, we never see Echidna's face (it is always obscured or out of frame). Some perceptive people notice this and it seems confusing (why are we hiding the face of someone we've seen before? What's the point, we know what's behind there anyways.) Then, during this episode, we pan up to Echidna's body's face, and it's different (notably larger, longer nose, smaller mouth, longer head as a whole) and it shows Echidna with this face in Roswaal and Beatrice's memory. That's supposed to be a payoff, hence the swelling music during that part, but barely anyone realizes it (so, no worries that yall didn't either). It's also hinted by Emilia right after she clears the last trial and enters the sealing room, she wonders aloud who the woman in the coffin is even though she's seen soul Echidna during the trials. We're supposed to notice that they're different for some reason and come up with our own explanations for why.

2023-09-15 05:04:55 +0000 UTCRon your definitely on to something, this is some non spoiler light novel cut info so it's okay to read, but basically Echidna's soul that subaru was meeting with in the castle of dreams and the dead body in the tomb that roswaal and beatrice were seeing are supposedly "different people". Beatrice said in the novel during this chapter that her mother is "Echidna, but the one that subaru was meeting was most likely the 'Witch of Greed'." It seems to be some kind of split personality thing that we didn't get much explanation for at this time. Perhaps upon death, her soul became its own personality. It might be end game stuff so maybe in 10 years we will get that answer!

2023-09-15 04:20:33 +0000 UTCwas a fun journey rewatching with you guys, re zero can get real confusing on the first watch, a quick recap would probably help before season 3 if you can manage but isnt necessary of course. would also be really cool if you react to the re:zero if stories - a youtuber has done a video about each of them and they are really crazy, the author wrote entire what if scenarios that go down some really really dark paths. you guys would really like it, even considering the videos are mostly audio books summarized nicely.
