This is the reason why the show is called Hunter X Hunter. Gon (a hunter) is trying to hunt his father (who is also a hunter), hence Gon is a "hunter hunter".

If you truly think about it - aside from the fact that Gon already has a mother in his life but never had a father and is curious about that, what reason would Ging have to bring Gon to Mito other than something bad regarding the mother? She's either dead, incapable of raising him, or doesn't want him.

Hunter x hunter for most part is an evolution of Yu Yu Hakusho. And within hxh, because of hiatus by the author, there is an evolution in each arc as well. What's fascinating and crazy is hxh 2011 only covers for most part the set up of the whole story, imo.

It’s totally fine that you’re not fond of gon’s mindset because the author didn’t intentionally creat Gon to make everyone like him. As you may have already noticed, a lot of characters in this story is morally grey. Same as Gon. Gon’s character isn’t created to be some role model or anyone. He’s just a boy with both good and bad sides, like anyone else. Not to mention his character is the simple-minded, kind of air-head type, so it makes sense that he doesn’t think very far ahead.

I actually kinda understand that. Gon doesn’t have any other father figure rather than Ging, but he already has Mito as his mother figure and has always seen her as his real mother. That’s why he doesn’t want to know about his mother because it makes him feel like he’s filling Mito’s mother position with someone else. I agree that his mother could have valid reasons for not being with him and might be in danger like you said but considering how simple Gon’s mindset is, it makes sense that he doesn’t think that much.

He is not the sweet little boy you think he is lol. most adolescent males would care about their real mother, but gon is a lot different as you will come to find out. but if something as insignificant as that is enough to take this show out of your top 10 this might not be the show for you fam lmfao.

I am going to keep watching bc the show is well made(and i love Yu Yu hakusho), but that whole not giving a F**k about his birth moms story at all, she could be dead or in a terrible situation...and he does not even care to hear...but so interested in his Dad who openly said he was selfish (dead beat) and does not want to see him....idk...maybe this will be pivotal or something later on...but definitely fell out of my top 10 animes for now. the author blames Gon, but it lets me know his mindset which right now, im not too fond of. But it is a shounen(geared towards a male audience) i probably just do not understand the brain of an adolescent male becoming an adult

Not sure how gon knowing any info about his mother affects him recognizing mito as his mom. Like what if his mother is still alive and was in danger or something, and gon just doesn't gaf. Yet Ging doesn't even wanna see him, but gon is still ready to travel the world and get his ass beat a million times if it means he can meet his dead beat father lol. That's kinda fucked up, but he's a stubborn character. Gon will be Gon.
