Hope y'all are hungry!! We've mentioned this before in various videos/streams, but in case you missed it: We are deciding on removing our end of season livestream discussions and replacing that perk with a new anime show!!
We absolutely love the intimate livestreams with y'all, but given that we are already livestreaming twice a week on Twitch and only about 15-20 people show up to the streams, we figured it would be way more beneficial to you All-You-Can-Eaters to receive a new show (this slot will be reserved for more "niche" anime shows, meaning not a ton of people are wanting to see it). Hopefully y'all agree with this change :) And don't worry! We will continue to have end of season discussions but on our Twitch streams!

@Natalia as the other guy said, their childlike cuz they're children and there hasn't been a situation with sexual implications. To be fair, if you haven't watched the show and only read about the situations online, I can see how it can be perceived that way, but thats why context is so important. But if you have seen the show and still think that, then there was an obvious bias going into, and watching the show.

That said If Rice and Ginger or any mod want me to delete my messages to liberate the space, just ask, I can totally understand. My excuses also for anyone else not interest in this, I just want do give the chance to an anime that think is worth watching if you can pass those ''problem'' My goal is only to put a different perspectives about this, as I believe it just depends of the state of mind you are in when watching this show. I perfectly understand that this show does not suit to everyone, but going in with or stopping before because of presupposition, misbelief or misconception without making our own idea on something feels to me like a loss if, in the end, it could be something enjoyable. I'm not trying to convert anyone to my view or something the like, I'm just giving food for thoughts to anyone reading this. The thing is, everyone can see those things if their mind are set for it, intentionally or not. Totally Spies! a kid show that run on TV for example, has a lot of fetishism if you look for it and many of those point mentioned can be countered when looked from another angle. It just depend on how you look at the show: what belief you have, personal values, takes on a concept etc. If someone comes in this show with the belief the author is X the show will likely be '' tainted'' by that belief. This is not to excuses bad behavior of the author may or may not have, I don't know what going on in is head nor what reason he may have and quite frankly I do not care. Art, Story, Anime or Show should, in my opinion, be something to be taken on their own. The creation is not the creator. Like I said everything is contextual and when you reframe things, interpretation can change. So let me first counter: ''with a clear sexual connotation'' and '' its clear there is a sexual connotation'' by saying how is it clear? I don't remember at all any statement or any character lusting for number 2 or 3 when those things happen nor do I remember making this sexual. Ecchi make scene in a sexual way, and pretty sure anyone can visualize how they are doing it, but Made in Abyss? Doesn't seem ecchi to me when those scene come up. Like I said if you look for it to be sexualize or because the author is ''widely know as a pedophile'' and look with that in mind, it will be as it is. But when you look the show itself, with the context and setting of w hat the show presents, it is not. It is only clear to the one seing it with the right mindset 1- The last sentence seems to forget what the character is and what curiosity can do when what's happening could happen (man this sound weird without the context of the scene and just the description in the reddit...) 2 This is what make the abyss dangerous and couple with the artwork it just hit harder and create an interesting dichotomy proper to this anime imo. About the ''it's clear'' part I already talked about it and with the context on the scene here again.. Number 3 to me just add a layer of realism to the show and the journey of the character as everyone irl need to go to the bathroom one moment or another. And one of the main appeal of this show imo is the adventure, the day to day journey they are going through as they go on. So being a fetishism or not just depends on how you are looking at it. 4- Here again, contextual with what is the ''victim'' and what curiosity can lead to as ''those perpetrator'' see him differently. (Sound weird again without the context of the scene...) 5-Does gore, violence and suffering are a fetichism in other show? Re-zero? Attack on titan? Is it because they are kid? Subaru from Re:Zero is a teenager, is it it more ok to make him goes through loop and loop of gruesome death for that? Here again, in MiA the dichotomy between the artwork and those theme just create an ambiance proper to this show that none other have. What I'm trying to explain in the end is that it all boils down to our perception/representation we make ourselves of something, consciously or not, and that when presented with something different or new, many "lenses" can tainted our views and hide things we would see otherwise. Looking at this anime from this Reddit side and his inner-representation, the author's side and inner-representation or even from my side and inner-representation should not be the way to enjoy a creation. It should be from the story's perspectives with as much of outside interference as possible imo. The creation ain't the creator and it ain't me neither so why not just look and see what's the story is about and not what I think it is? This is at least my way of watching show and learning things in general as I found it more enjoyable and easier to learn as it open possibilities that would be hidden otherwise. The main characters are childlike because they’re children. Kids that have to learn about death, survival and the morality of the word they live in. If your issue is stuff that you’ve heard on the internet than it’s nothing worse than what’s in media like berserk, mushoku tensei or goodnight punpun (manga with weird ass name but yea that’s what it’s called). All three have been wildly appreciated within ani/manga communities, although I dropped goodnight punpun because it’s way too depressing

It's not "you have to watch it to know", if there are all these comments about the show it's because there is a big argument about it. If there is suspicion of pedophilia behind I don't think anybody should watch it just to see if it is or if it is not. But I guess that's just me. Anyway, I put here the thoughts of someone WHO HAS WATCHED IT AND NOT ENJOYED HERE: """I really wanted to love this anime. The visuals, the OST, the story, it was all beautiful. If I could ignore the bad sides, this anime would be a top 5-10 for me. But I cant just ignore this. In fact its made me so angry for existing that Im writing this in the first place. The farther I got into this anime, the more I felt like I was just watching a lolicon erotica. Let me explain. This anime/manga has a lot of recurring "scenarios" that happen to characters. I believe there are a lot of similarities, and thus I have categorized these into 5 specific fetish scenarios that the author tends to focus on. For the sake of not spoiling anything, I wont name characters or say any major spoilers, however note that all characters mentioned in these scenarios are young children: 1.Bondage/"Strung up naked"/sexual abuse. This pops randomly few times in the first season. This is usually said by an adult to a young child as a "punishment" for "bad behavior", with a clear sexual connotation. Also, one character randomly gets sodomized with medicine while sleeping because... plot ig? 2.Gore/Torture. This happens to a variety of characters and it includes dismemberment, extreme pain, blood, death, etc. In multiple instances, the characters are naked while it takes place. Its the exact type of shit you'd see in r/goru if you were to go there (DO NOT). Gore alone wouldnt bother me normally, but when theres nudity involved as well, its clear there is a sexual connotation. 3.Piss/wetting pants/needing to go. This happens a lot and sometimes it happens during extreme pain/torture sequences or just randomly out of the blue. It always feels thrown in for absolutely no reason whatsoever, and never contributes to the plot. 4.Bringing up a certain character's penis. Kids look at it, adults look at it (all intentionally), then characters mention it over and over again, draw it multiple times, then more adults look at it (again, intentionally). In most cases this has absolutely nothing to do with the plot. 5.The souls of lolis trapped inside some object/other form and sentenced to eternal pain and suffering. This is really what did it for me, since it happens over and over and over again. The author really seems to have a fixation on this topic imo. Even after the events of Movie 3 concluded, the author then went and added a similar story to S4 with yet another loli trapped in some suffering state. I genuinely hope this isnt a fetish, but at this point it wouldnt suprise me in the slightest. Sometimes, some of these scenarios would be central to the plot, and other times, they would be thrown in randomly seemingly for no reason. I would be watching and suddenly theres another piss scene, or another torture/sexual abuse scene. I felt like I wasnt watching an anime but rather an erotica... about kids. Its like the author was writing and then thought "hmm putting this piss scene here would be kinda hot..." Disgusting, absolutely disgusting.""""" Best wishes for all

The author himself is inexcusably out there but the work alone is genuinely fantastic. Whatever questionable scenes you’re referring to aren’t nearly as bad as what happens in berserk (not going to elaborate that because Ron is reading berserk and he may read this comment). Regardless the story, world building, character development and motifs/themes of Made in Abyss make an amazing show, not to mention the composer Kevin Penkin actually slaps, if you like musical compositions you should check it out. All I’m saying is that what you said is the equivalent of telling someone not to listen to Michael Jackson because of everything that’s happened revolving around him. In my personal order I’d have 1. Made in Abyss since it’s the best overall show, 2. Fire Force because there’s a lot of hype moments and it will garner a lot of popularity for their channel and 3. 86, honestly 86 isn’t bad, it was fun, but nothing amazing imo.

I mean where does that cames from? From who? Is it true? Does he act on this? Many disturbed or mentally ill can create a lot fantastic story or art as creativity sometimes can comes from a deep place. The world building, the art and the story is just excellent and easily my top one anime/manga. If you (in the general sense, not you personally) don't want to support the guy don't buy the manga, but the anime ? Those working on it have done an excellent job if the OST, the animation and the censorship. It won't be only the author that would be denied for a "wildely accepted thing". Dont get me wrong I'm not excusing bad thing from people if they did or do something, but a comportement is contextual, and does not represent the entirety of someone in my eyes. I hope this does not come out as something aggressive from my side, this is in no way my intention. Written media can be difficult to express something and English is not my first language so I am even more vigilant with what I'm writing
