You should watch the 2 OVAs before watching the 2nd season :)

Earlier when roswaal said "she died of weakness, it was as if she was merely asleep. The method was more of a curse than a spell", subaru said "i thought it was rem that used that curse, so rem wasn't the shaman?" This was a recall to episode 4, rem seems to have died in her sleep the same way subaru died in his sleep at the end of episode 4. Subaru originally assumed rem was the one that cursed him that night, but after this episode - seeing that rem also died in her sleep the same way he did, subaru now knows rem isn't the person who cursed him back in ep 4. Summary of mansion arc deaths: Death 1: Died in his sleep due to "weakness" Death 2: Was dying from weakness, he walked through hall way suffering and puking, then got Murdered by Rem. Death 3: Tortured by Rem in the field, but the finishing blow came from ram actually with the wind magic cutting his throat. This was explained better in the Novel Death 4: Suicide

Just in case you didn't catch it, Subaru doesn't know how the "game" works. He's not sure how many restarts he has so each death is a risk and since three is a pretty common number, it's possible that each "checkpoint" only has three revives available before it's game over. That and he actually, truly, does not want to die and he remembers the physical pain of his deaths every time which makes his sacrifice at the end so much more impactful for me. It's not "oh well, there's always next time." it's more like "I don't know if this is going to work and even if it does, it's gonna hurt a lot, but these people are worth the risk.".

Matthew Lutz

I think it's gonna be fine to leave things in the dark since this is one of the appeals of the show. Things will make a lot more sense by the end of these hardships Subaru has to face

Naoha

Subaru dies spoiler alert
