62: Graduation

I agree! You are immensely talented and this project has really motivated me, my sister and my friends to learn as much as we can about all the abuse and trauma so many children and young adults have gone through. This piece is truly jarring and unforgettable. It has opened up this dark and evil secret that these schools have successfully hidden from our society/main stream media for far, far too long. There needs to be a reckoning and we need everyone to know the absolute horrors that occurred (and probably still is occurring) and the complicit adults that allowed this to happen. We are hear to support that and thank you for being so honest and vulnerable. This is the way to create change!

Yes, speaking in foreign languages on the phone was not allowed. As a matter of fact, one kid who was fairly new and he had finally earned a weekly call, in his first one (which was being monitored by an SP of course), he busted into Korean and got off a few sentences before they could cut off the call. Kid got pulled out of Elan a week later. True story.

I just finished reading this chapter. I started reading yesterday. I'm so sorry for all you've been through. You are an incredible artist and storyteller. I can't imagine the strength it takes to share your worst memories like this. I wish I could afford to give more.

hey were their any spanish speaking kids at elon? if so did they have someone monitoring the switchboard who also spoke spanish. I imagine if they got some quebec kid who spoke french that whole operation could get jeprodized

So many chapters I think you have gotten out only to be brought back or learned you never left. Now, you have me actually going through my mind how in the world are you going to end back up in that hell hole. You tell a good story Joe, it is sad and heartbreaking but well written.

I sincerely hope the next chapters are NOT going to involve you ending up back at Elan, but rather you and your family going through some type of therapy to make sense of Everything that happened. You may be gone physically, but it will take time until you’re truly gone emotionally.

This was amazingly written man, as always you manage to put my emotions through the wringer which just shows how much skill you have with writing. Thank you for sharing your story, I'm sure it can't be easy but I appreciate what you do with this comic.

I feel exhausted. Emotionally wrung out and waiting for Elan to strike and pull him back in. Even when he is in the car and driving away from the hell pit of a place. Almost expecting a white van to pull the car over and drag him back down into another level of hell on earth. As always, it was brilliantly written. Thank you so much for sharing.

That last line gave me chills... Joe, you're truly a master of suspense!
