Regarding the smuggling of cocaine using commercial airlines, there's a famous case here in Paraguay where one flight from Eastern Airlines (flight 980) heading towards Miami crashed before it could reach its first stop in La Paz. This was probably because of malfunction of their instruments, but there was a cover up by the Bolivian government (undoubtedly cooperating with the rest of the region) The first report said there were no bodies, no blood and no black box. Shortly after other flights from Eastern Airlines were found with cocaine inside them in Miami airports. This was during the dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner (longest in Latin America if you don't count Castro /1954-1989/), that cemented the relations between narcos and the government that continues on until today. This has made me reconsider the role of Stroessner's dictatorship in committing atrocities not only here, but its effects on the American population. I'm always afraid of what sort of chess piece my country will become the next time.
