File this one under "significant update that doesn't look like much" - yesterday I wrote a rough script to assemble Daisy's mouth rig. In terms of raw functionality, it doesn't do much more than what I'd already built by hand, but it is cleaner.
Today I wanted to finish the mouth rig off, by adding corner raiser controls (the circles on each side). They control the amount of influence the jaw has over the corners of the mouth, and could also drive pre-defined expressions. ALL of the code I wrote today needed to be thrown out, because I'd over-thought the whole thing.
The kicker about spending all day on these corner risers, only to find an easier solution - after all of that trouble, there's not much to show off. I tried to record a video of it in action, but without those corner controls also making her smile or frown, it doesn't look like it's doing much of anything. If her mouth is open, the corner will move up a little, or down a little, and that's it. Maybe once the controls also drive some expressions, it'll look more impressive.
