Announcement about Copyrights & Changes in poll winners
Added 2020-05-10 01:06:00 +0000 UTCThere was a message from Patreon Team about Nintendo's copyrights. It seems that we aren't allow to draw any Nintendo characters here in Patreon. so from here and now on I won't draw any characters if she is licensed under Nintendo. Please understand about this concerns.
For a poll in this link (https://www.patreon.com/posts/36387773), as we just have 1 winners from Nintendo. I'm going to draw the 3rd place instead.
so 2nd & 3rd places from poll which will be included in May 2020 rewards will be
- Hestia - Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (290 votes)
- Rapunzel - Tangled (264 votes)

Be patient and wait for Disney to buy Nintendo....

2020-05-12 20:37:58 +0000 UTCI have some simple advice if you're a cosplayer: ask the owner of the IP. Don't invest your time and money unless you know for certain what their stance is. Get any agreement IN WRITING! Make sure that you talk to the owner of the IP and not some random on the internet. Cosplayers can make their lives hell because they ask for money - say through Patreon or selling image sets. Talk to the owner of the IP and see what their position is on cosplayers trying to monetarize their efforts. It's easy to ask and it saves you from being banged up the arse by lawyers. Don't just assume that your work is "transformative" in some way. Lawyers can be real cunts, so don't risk it. You are a nobody - and copyright lawyers have millions of dollars that they can use to murder you. You cannot win if it goes to court! Winning in court is a matter of who has the most money, and that's not you. Be realistic and be overly careful. This stuff is fun - it's not worth spending ten years in prison over this.
2020-05-12 13:20:09 +0000 UTCNintendo : No. Disney : Ok. Da fuck ?

2020-05-12 02:33:39 +0000 UTCImagine if a cosplayer was told that the character they spent time crafting a costume for wasn't allowed because its a "nintendo character." I highly doubt this actually holds up in the long run.
2020-05-11 14:56:25 +0000 UTCDraw Samus but call her "space girl"

2020-05-11 11:15:49 +0000 UTCIsn't what you do considered transformative by it's very nature. Don't US copy write laws cover that?

2020-05-11 09:58:53 +0000 UTCthat sucks :/

2020-05-10 23:25:30 +0000 UTCDraconian bullshit from corporations...what a surprise

2020-05-10 16:40:50 +0000 UTCWhy would they be responsible for what one does elsewhere? And it's not their rules, btw, it's the law. They were most likely approached by Nintendo's lawyers and were forced to start controlling the content.

2020-05-10 16:11:34 +0000 UTCA shame, but totally understandable.

2020-05-10 16:05:14 +0000 UTCI heard Patreon is getting heavy handed, searching sites other than their own to see if creators are following their nonsense rules elsewhere. I heard they demand access to artists' google drives. Would they try to bust you if you drew Nintendo characters and posted them on other sites?

2020-05-10 12:55:13 +0000 UTCokay

2020-05-10 12:03:02 +0000 UTCa way other patreon found to counter this is wait a little while like 2 or 3 month then post picture without the real character name, so used an alias for those character since most of the time its an ai that signals the name of the character. and the comment section need to not talk about where they are coming from or what are their real name.

2020-05-10 11:44:45 +0000 UTCThat would be transformative enough to be protected by fair use.

2020-05-10 06:44:29 +0000 UTCI've heard of this sort of thing being attempted in the past. From what I gather Nintendo (or other companies) can't actually enforce/stop Fan Art of their characters/products from being created under Fair Use, but alas if Patreon has said they would no longer allow it despite not being legally required to follow that request then there is little that can be done about it.
Lord of Nightmares
2020-05-10 04:50:16 +0000 UTCWell I'm glad you got to Rosalina before they shut it down. This doesn't affect Pokemon characters does it? Nintendo doesn't technically own them.

2020-05-10 03:39:37 +0000 UTCLewd drawings of Nintendo characters will now cease....just like no one does Nintendo Rom hacks anymore... oh well. Great work, Neo!

2020-05-10 02:34:25 +0000 UTCIt's best to err on the right side of the law. I once had the displeasure of having my bum reamed by lawyers over copyright - it's not something that I'd wish upon my worst enemy.
2020-05-10 02:33:01 +0000 UTCTheir legal team is hired by them. If the legal team is overreaching and Nintendo disagrees, Nintendo can shut down their legal team's moves. Nintendo is ultimately at fault no matter.

2020-05-10 01:52:58 +0000 UTCDid the Patreon staff post anything about no Nintendo art anywhere for us to see? I haven't heard anything about it myself so I'm curious.

2020-05-10 01:47:08 +0000 UTCDamn. That’s tragic. They’re even stopping people from drawing now? At least we get Rapunzel now.
Luis
2020-05-10 01:41:03 +0000 UTCThat sounds possible. One person I'm currently following is currently doing Fire Emblem characters, another just did two Animal Crossing humanized, and one other did Pokémon.
Will Martin-Foster
2020-05-10 01:38:32 +0000 UTCthats exactly how other artist get past it, they don't use the exact name or exact name of the games lol.
Topaz Moon (Alchemist)
2020-05-10 01:36:55 +0000 UTCThough I guess it would technically be possible to get around it by calling them something else like the chinese knockoffs do with toys and costumes. "Mushroom princess", "Bounty Hunter", etc.
Beef McBeef
2020-05-10 01:24:12 +0000 UTCIt just means that the more obscure characters may have more chance to get some spotlight. No hate for Nintendo characters but we kinda see them over and over.
TakemaKei
2020-05-10 01:23:05 +0000 UTCOn one hand I'm glad this means Rapunzel gets drawn, on the other hand this is a bummer for nintendo fans
Beef McBeef
2020-05-10 01:22:13 +0000 UTCCan you bypass that by posting a link to, say your deviantart or artstation, instead of the image of the character?
Fantom
2020-05-10 01:21:20 +0000 UTCI'm just watching from the sidelines, but wasn't there a bunch of fake DMCA claims from someone claiming to be Nintendo recently?
Densetsu Meru
2020-05-10 01:16:17 +0000 UTCWait, I just got fart from another person I follow that had Nintendo characters in them. Granted they were humanized, but they are still Nintendo based. Weird...

2020-05-10 01:15:45 +0000 UTCwow, worse than disney!

2020-05-10 01:15:45 +0000 UTCNintendo isn't the problem, it's their legal team.

2020-05-10 01:12:58 +0000 UTCThis is why people hate nintendo
2020-05-10 01:08:27 +0000 UTCNintendo how are we supposed to appreciate and show love for you when you keep doing this? Sorry you got to go through that dude
