Sketchbook (PAGE 19)
DeltaRedWolf had a birthday coming up a little while ago, so I set to work. Some rough ideation, polished sketch, color thumbnail, and linework (just the sketch but even more polished). I'll upload the finished piece soon! This was a real exercise in color harmony.
Anyone here listen to Glass Animals?

There's couple color thumbnails on this sketch page: "Liminal Spaces" (FA | e621) and "Endless Summer" (FA | e621). I seriously can't recommend these little color studies enough. I used to ...

All colored! Juno's doing a little pavement surfing in her hometown. She better be careful or she'll get a scrape. Another one, I mean.
This was a beautiful opportunity to try out some new techniques, including a brush for roughing up the wall in the background. Pretty much since the end of last year, I've been more thoughtful about aspect ratios -- not that it makes or breaks a piece, but I like the process of deciding on an aspect ratio (like 2:3 for upright portraits) and making the ...

Juno wanted back on the board, so a little idle sketching gave me something to work from. I don't imagine she ever took her skateboarding too seriously, and truth be told she's more of a rollerblader when it comes to pavement-based wheeled activities. But it's a good social outlet either way. And yeah, she's getting a cute skater outfit for this one, complete with the aesthetic power of chunky headphones. Full color is coming soon!

Even if fall is only half-heartedly showing up right now, I’m making some little transitions into cozy season. All the ingredients for mulled apple cider are on the counter waiting for me to make a batch. And I guess I can't let this beautiful bottle of dark rum go to waste...
So, I started this sketch page by playing around with a fun pose that promised to show off all the goods. And whatever I was going for at first, fossa quickly came to mind. This became “And I don’t need You...

The beach has a clothing-optional policy that's embraced by many of the local vendors. And while Juno's comfortably in her element, it takes more convincing to get Petra to shed her clothes outside. Especially when it extends into an unplanned shopping trip.
Petra hasn't had the spotlight in a while, even though I think about her all the time -- you can see some of her earlier appearances on 2025-09-24 21:42:00 +0000 UTC View Post
This is a more recent sketch page I started after Ollie proposed a little collab. I've been in love with his Lutrai (otter people) pretty much forever and I wanted to do this girl justice. The first idea wasn't clicking -- I just couldn't get the energy or weight I was imagining, even after multiple copy-pastes and variations. So I started over with some very gestural ideas and finally got the result I was after. I went for something that would blend well with his style, and he took it the re...

A couple of friends hitting up the beach market. I tried out a few compositions, did a color thumbnail, and sketched out the scene. Stay tuned for the finished piece.

You might say it's about time. Finally, last year's finished artwork in one convenient zip file! While my output in 2024 wasn't impressive, it set me up for more success this year. Not just by improving a living situation that left me consistently and completely drained, but through some focused practice and study in areas that needed it.
As always, if I forgot to add something let me know. Thanks for being here in 2025 <3

Several genets and civets on this page. Even some rough sketches of Mazia and Malech getting frisky, which is the spark that spun off into “It’s Not About the Mangoes”. I’ve rarely visited their village in recent drawings, which is horribly unfair because I know they’d love the attention…
And playing with the anatomical plasticity of dragons, I ended up with a particularly royal looking lady that I finished in “Keeper of the Mountain” (2025-09-03 21:52:00 +0000 UTC View Post
I took a swing at everyone’s favorite Cerinian for Krystal Appreciation Month. Not because there’s any kind of Krystal shortage, but because my favorite interpretations give her a little mystery and liveliness. Moreso than cockwarmer for dinogrunts, anyway. I took a few liberties to nudge her in that direction.
My first encounter with the blue vixen was in an issue of Nintendo Power way back in the year 2000. I still lived in South Africa at the time, so the magazine mostly just tea...

Here's a look at how she's coming along -- an initial concept sketch, a refinement with more energy, and the finished line art ready for coloring. This has been a backburner piece while I work on other projects, but (very happily) it'll be done while we're still in Krystal Appreciation Month.

It may be stating the obvious, but the finished work I publicly post emerges out of pages of artistic experiments and meanderings that go on behind the scenes. It’s like a tip-of-the-iceberg kind of thing. Some of it’s focused and deliberate study. Some of it’s very stream-of-consciousness. But of course it all adds up to that much coveted “mileage”, and it’s kinda nice to be able to share some of this work that wouldn’t ordinarily see the light of day.
I have a few quick ...

Between larger projects, I've worked on a few smaller pieces in recent months that seemed worth sharing. First a portrait of Bex, who's been a friend for a long long time, and afforded me every excuse I've ever had to draw a panda!
This otter girl showed up as the subject of a very quick color study. She's the result of some recent effort to nail down a soup-to-nuts illustration process that doesn't require constant reinvention every time (which can be very time-consuming, and not super...

I guess Juno's idle admiration of kangaroo paws got her into a bit of a situation. And it kind of looks like Audrey is teasing Juno with some comparisons of her own.
A gift for Lizet, who's inspired me as much as anyone else to draw up some kangaroos lately, including attempts at that distinctly marsupial anatomy. Quite happily, she recently posted a pic of Juno getting into 2025-07-01 21:36:36 +0000 UTC View Post
A wolf mother gets dressed.
I got a little more bold with merging my layers along the way. And the result was that it felt a lot less like housekeeping some byzantine layer structure and more like a naturalistic creative process. This is something I’ll be doing more in the future, letting go of the idea that all these layers are sacred and need to remain available for endless adjustment -- which might also save me from overworking a piece. I was also more adventurous with the rim ligh...

Right away, this page has a little piece to appeal to Foxer421! This was a bit of birthday art, and for drawings that don’t necessarily need to be super high-res I’ll finish them up directly on the sketch page. Which removes some of the intimidation of opening up a whole new blank canvas…
Brandy (the porcupine) also shows up, flopped on the couch in a pretty provocative way. This one got the full-color treatment (2025-05-15 21:55:21 +0000 UTC View Post
