”I was just curious!”

Andrea, the employee who was apprehended for severely mishandling an important asset of the facility. The contract, that she signed but didn’t bothered reading, indicates that she will have to pay for the damages or compensate in a way that both parties will agree, simply said, this damage put her into debt.

“Let’s just settle this by re-assigning you in a different department, we will prepare you immediately, we hope that you’re interested with fishes. ”

The laboratory concluded that the only way to compensate is to be directly be involved in their study.

“while you work, your name will be subject-05, or simply, s05”

It was suspiciously quick and peaceful agreement for what seemed to be a very serious situation. It could be a part of the punishment, but S-05 wasn’t made aware of what kind of preparation she will undergo.

A rare opportunity of acquiring a subject where the laboratory has the full control.

The incident happened when the Laboratory had to attend a meeting that required the presence of the main team. The laboratory only had 7 people, 6 of these people is the main team, and 1 new employee that was supposed to be restricted only in the general section of the building.

Alone in the building, Andrea can’t stop herself to know what keeps these people busy. Just past the reception, there is a small waiting room with an empty aquarium, next to it is the main laboratory. She was like a child who visited a museum for the first time and touching everything. Within the main laboratory is a smaller aquarium embedded in the floor where s04 was resting for observation.

Camera recording showed that Andrea was harshly dragging s04 out of water, damaging some of the equipment in the process, plucking out her scales, and pulling her fins;

As a result, s04 suffered considerable physical injuries.

Andrea was employed recently as an all around assistant, and was assigned in the reception and office area delivering documents and coffees around for the doctors. Because of her fresh recruitment status, the laboratory have not fully disclosed to Andrea what they were studying.

Before desperately applying, Andrea was a college freshmen who dropped out after just a week, she was then disowned by her family, who did everything in their power to get her to college, and now was too tired in dealing with their child’s extremely rebellious attitude. Andrea is then left on her own and figured she would need work to pay rent and other necessities.

The procedure is completed within just 3 days, the fastest operation performed by the laboratory.

In theory, the laboratory always had the ability and technology to complete their operations in this speed, it was only limited by their respect for the volunteers who willingly offered their body.

Subject-05 became the proof of the laboratory’s abilities, an operation with no restrictions or as they see fit for the subject.

How much modification is possible and how would the human body adapt in a short period of time, Subject-05 became the answer to that question.

The transformation stages of s-05 has only two parts: preparation and completed stage.

Preparation stage, All excess parts is removed and is used as the base material for s05’s new body parts.

Ears are removed, the original earhole is sealed with nearby muscles; hearing is significantly reduced.

Mouth is converted to a simple muscular orifice: all teeth is removed and replaced by a gum extension, tongue is fused to the base of the mouth. Intake of large and hard foods is now prohibited, and s05 can now only ingest special fish food provided by the laboratory.

Lower arms and lower legs are amputated, remaining thighs are fused, buttocks and thigh muscles are reorganized to reduce bending of the body, this will eliminate the ability to assume a sitting posture.

Excretion holes are unified and partially modified to resemble a cloaca structure, and then relocated to the former crotch region.

S-05 woke up feeling very tired and numb, last thing she remembered was the negotiation with doctors… while drinking coffee with them.

Naturally, she tried to get up and sit on the bed to assess her situation, the failure of this simple action alarmed her and felt that something is wrong with her body. S-05 raised her limbs to see why, the missing arms and the fleshy elongated belly instead of legs on her lower body made her scream in shock. Her attempt to scream didn’t help, because now she is even more horrified that her mouth was also modified.

“Subject 05, good morning”

Upon hearing this, s-05 noticed that she only hears muffled sounds and her ears are also feeling strange. Despite the changes in her mouth, she can still speak but with minor difficulties.

“what’s happening?? What did you do to me??? my body….” By this point, s-05 is in a state of panic, tears are already running down.

The doctor took a seat on her bedside and started explaining the details of the current modifications in her body. S-05 broke down in despair as she started to realize the amount of the consequences that she will have to pay.

After the debriefing, subject-05 was given just an hour for her to absorb the changes to her body, she is then put to sleep after forcefully given her last meal as a human, her transformation is continued right after.

From a human walking upright in two legs, Subject 05 will wake up as an aquatic creature that will be forced to accept her new life as a pet fish.

The main modification procedures started by focusing on converting Subject-05’s physical structure from humanoid to an almost full fish, followed by a much more intricate conversion of internal organs, and then completed with skin to scale conversion.

1) Replacement of arms and legs:

Remaining arm is replaced by a pectoral fin ray.

Remaining leg bones is separated from the leg muscles, the thigh bones are replaced by a pelvic fin ray.

The bones of the fins are exactly just like fish fins, softer and not designed to carry any body weight, any attempt to “stand” or even crawl with these fins will instead cause tremendous pain.

2) Fish tail:

The original thigh muscles, former buttocks and lower back muscles are reorganized to function as a singular structure. Tail bone is replaced by an extended version that comes with a completed caudal fin.

Completed tail is intentionally shorter, only past the knees if s05 was still human.

Subject 05 is designated to be a fish instead of a mermaid, so the tail is designed to move vertically (left - right motion), in contrast to the normal mermaid tail that moves horizontally (up - down motion).

It is expected that s05 will have an unfamiliar reaction with her new tail, but that is only expected.

3) Modification of Internal organs:

Continuing from the fish tail, the temporary cloaca is finely tuned for full functionality, and then further modified to become a real fish vent, extra modification are made to accommodate special activities.

Because the goal of the laboratory is to convert s05’s body to a fish, her reproductive system is also modified to allow her to lay fish eggs, this is designed to replace her original menstrual cycle.

A modification that subject 05 will have to learn in a harsh way.

Gills are implanted in the slits under her chest, this is connected to a portion of s05’s lower lungs. Despite having gills, this new organ will only serve to extend s05’s ability to stay underwater.

No matter how advance the laboratory’s technology became, original human body functions will always stay superior compared to any fish or animal, that’s why it still demand a huge amount of oxygen, something that is impossible to get in water.

S05’s eyes are modified only to resemble fish eyes, other than the protective lens, the changes are mostly cosmetic.

4) Finalization.

Dorsal fin is attached before the skin modification.

The bones in the dorsal fins is directly connected to s05’s spine, and just like all the other fins, it is not supposed to carry any weight, laying down on her back in a flat surface is now a very painful action.

Subject-05’s skin is implanted with the special dermal cells of fishes that specifically grows scales, this is done by submerging her in a water tank filled with chemical, the same chemical used to grow all of her new body parts.

The accelerated healing properties of the magic chemical made the fish scales grow within the remaining hours.

Subject-05’s scale distribution ended up similar to a gold fish, her face and fins is mostly smooth, but her whole body is now covered with scales, soft and very fine scales are in the hair scalp and front body, nipples have disappeared and has uniform appearance to the rest of her chest.

Not only scales, s05’s new fish skin will now produce mucus that constantly moisturizes her entire body.

The next morning, s05 was awakened by the chattering of the doctors around her, first thing she noticed is she is lying in her stomach in a warm yet very moist bed. As soon as she tried to move, however, she only managed to raise her head and groan that notified the doctors around her.

“The new fish is awake” one of the doctors said, and walked towards s05’s face for a closer look.

Subject 05 wasn’t able to comprehend what the doctor just said. “There is only her and the doctors in a laboratory room, why would they say that while looking at her” this was the thoughts in her mind until it was interrupted when the other doctors started touching her body.

The sensations of her body getting touched and poked in places she do not recognize, s05 knows that her body is being touched, but she could not determine some of the body parts that are being touched. The shocking sensations caused s05 to squirm out of discomfort and made her look at the doctors behind her.

She is staring at a group of doctors with their hands on a large fish, it took her a long time to realize that this large fish is her. S05 shook her body, and as expected, the fish body shook accordingly. In shock and disbelief, s05 tried to turn around and check on her body only to discover that her previously amputated limbs were feeling less powerful, or in this case, “softer”.

S05 is staring at fish fins flapping when she is trying to move her “arms” or “legs”, these fins matches the bigger fin at the back of the fish body, she has a glimpse of the tail which strangely corresponds to an odd feeling of her thighs.

A large orange, almost golden fish desperately squirming in an operating table, that’s what s05 looks like if you look at it from a distance.

“Seems like the transformation is successful, everything is stable” the doctor in front of s05 concluded, “we will now explain to you about your new body, and your new life from now on”

“???!!!!”

The other doctors lifted and flipped Subject 05 on the operating table that splits in the middle. Above is a mirror that finally gave her a good view on her new body.

Subject 05 is staring on the ‘creature’ in the mirror, which is her reflection,

“is that… me?” she muttered, the only thing that she was able recognize on the reflection was her hair and her face….. even her face has changed so much.

A human with a lower body of a fish is the description of a mermaid, however,

Subject 05 only had her head and chest resembling human parts. Her entire body is now covered in golden scales, sections that are not covered by scales has the similar shine to latex, or rubber. Traces of any human skin seems to have completely disappeared.

From the shoulder, flesh colored fish fins are in place instead of human arms. Subject-05’s lower body has been transformed to the point that it is exactly just a carp, traces that would resemble a human body is reduced to just the faint shape of her waist. Even the shape of the previously merged thighs have disappeared, instead, it is now a plump fish tail with a vertical caudal fin of a regular fish; a huge difference from the tail of popular mermaid appearance, that has a horizontal caudal fin like a dolphin’s fluke.

Another pair of fins is placed around the pelvic area, s05 realized that these pelvic fins corresponds to her thighs, the same way the pectoral fins was her former human arms, basically, all of her limbs have been converted to fish fins. The strange thing however, s05 can feel her thigh muscles contracting separately from the fins (former thighs), this is because the muscles and bones have been separated: the thigh bones for the fins, and the thigh muscles for the entire fish tail. This is a design that has been implemented since s03, and have been considered as the ideal design.

“From now on, your work is to be an ornamental fish display in this laboratory, you will accompany S04.”

“a fish…” s05 repeated.

“that’s right” the doctor confirmed “this is probably obvious, the changes in your body is irreversible, and by extension, your work for the laboratory is permanent.”

“I did not want this!!! no!!! NO!!! LET ME GO!!!” subject 05 cried out of dread, her clumsy attempt to get up did nothing but make her fall from the operating table.

The doctor just continued speaking as he watched a fish squirm on the ground,

“ to push the boundaries a little further, any traces of you being human have been cleared, so from now on you will be treated as a regular pet fish.”

Like a giant carp violently flapping all its fins and squirming on the ground, Subject 05 is as pathetic like any other fish on land.

Subject-05 is then picked up and transferred to a giant fish bowl in the same lobby where she was formerly assigned.

“...and lastly, our partnership with other companies requires the laboratory to share assets, So you will also provide special services that only a fish like you can do.”
