There is only one day left before MEPs will vote on this!
Not only will it be a threat to open source software in general, it will have hugely detrimental effects for anything revolving around fair use. Every Youtuber/Twitch streamer WILL be negatively affected by this. Anybody in the news that happens to link to other news stories WILL be negatively affected by this.
If you want to run a service revolving around user-generated content that is uploaded to a server, you as a company will need to install hugely expensive upload filters or face massive fines per copyright violation, pretty much killing a European Youtube/Facebook dead in its tracks. Every time you will link to a news article, you will need to figure out a licensing agreement with the author of that article, and some kind of monetary figure needs to be disclosed as a result of that.
This will kill fair use pretty much dead in its tracks, and will create an uneven playing field where only the monopolist big companies can afford to pay for all these expensive filters, pushing small businesses out entirely.
