It's really cool how you've been getting into some older movies and TV like this and Star Trek. Even knowing the twist, the ending is so powerful. Rod Sterling never misses. This is science-fiction at its best.

In the book when Taylor is first captured the apes are using police cars and helicopters. Taylor's ship is still in orbit. He escaped on his spaceship and heads back to Earth with Nova and their son. Beneath the POA was a BIG disappointment.

All of the 60s-70s sequels are interesting sci-fi, but not necessarily good exciting movies. The 2000 movie with Mark Wahlberg is cheesy and dumb but you shouldn't skip it.
