Q&A Submission

So, I had promised that there would be a monthly Q&A session, wherein you guys can submit questions for consideration, and I'd do my best to answer them on a Q&A video.

Now's probably a good time to open the floor for questions. Go ahead and either message them to me, or put them below. I'll do what I can to dig into the question, and then give an informed response.

You've gone over some of the issues with putting a bigger gun in a Sherman chassis. Well, enter the M36B1. Did that run into the same problems, or was there some sort of solution that was available that mitigated the issues with putting that 90mm on a Sherman hull?

Is there any vehicles that you would like to do a video on that are relatively hard for you to find someone who would let you make a video on that vehicle?

In your many talks on the US TD doctrine you mention that because the Allies were often in the attack, TDs were rarely called upon to perform their doctrinal duties. But, you also mention how many commanders used their TDs to supplement their conventional artillery; is there any sense as to how often this was done in any official records or could be extrapolated through other sources such as the number of HE shells verses the number of AP shells supplied to the TD units. Did any of the other Allied or Axis powers do the same? PS excellent book, love the videos.

what is the one tank you could own if you could choose one to keep for free?

There are various famous examples of the British and the Americans fielding flame thrower tanks such as the Crocodile tank lines, but did the German, Soviet or Japanese Army ever field flamethrower tanks in similar numbers and to what effect?

P.S. Was anyone else tempted to go one month at the SEE level just to see a Chieftain video on TOG II?

Could you do something comparing the TD philosophies of the US, UK, German & Russian armies during WWII? I found your chat on the US TD arm fascinating as it highlighted just how much thought had gone into the concept which was basically never used as intended in service & it made me wonder what the other powers were up to. Also, given that cross country speed is generally limited by the impact sensitivity of the squashy bits inside, was the Hellcat actually a good design? If it could only use that speed on smooth ground or a road, would a wheeled TD have been better?

A-10 Warthog?

If the British had built the Black Prince with the Meteor engine in it would it of been a good tank for it's time instead of been in The Tank Museums list of the worst 5 British tanks?

What's the story behind M4A3E4? I found out that they were part of MDAP but why did they used original turrets? Weren't old turrets regarded as unsatisfactory for use with 76mm cannons?

What would you consider the 5 most successful tanks ever produced ?? Based on length of service, combat record, production, exports and whether they had anything new or ground breaking about them.

What's your thoughts on the 50mm XM913 Bushmaster automatic cannon? Apparently, the U.S. Army is interested in putting that cannon on the new "optionally manned fighting vehicle". Do you think that a armored fighting vehicle designed with this auto-cannon in mind will be able to make MBTs with large caliber cannons, somewhat antiquated in modern warfare?

Do you fear the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Military in general, is becoming too focus on increases in capabilities, at the neglect of the logistics and sustainment? There is no point to having a super uber next-gen "insert name of thing here" if it can't be at the right place, at the right time, and ready to go.

If you could go back in time to any time period, with anything you wished (modern day things) where would you go, what would you bring and why?

What is your favorite weird 1950s/60's prototype US tank, like the stuff with smoothbore guns, oscillating turrets, and composite armor? and/or What's your least favorite part about the Abrams/Bradley?

Whatismoo

I've been trying to wrap my head around the M36B1 (or whatever the designation was for the M36 turret that got plopped on a M4A3 hull) lately. We already know that the early attempts at stuffing a 3in or 76mm gun on a Sherman chassis didn't go so well... So why put a 90mm in a turret on the Sherman hull? At first glance it seems to me that you'd be forcing the soldiers who crew those units to deal with the same problems that were faced in the early upgunning attempts.

What, in your opinion, is the most ridiculous/useless/generally idiotic armoured vehicle of WWII?
