Anyone want to see an Assumption of Command?

Thought I'd put it here first. I'm probably getting more cake than is going to be eaten, and have a couple of spare spaces available. Anyone in the central Texas area (think Dallas/Austin distance) want an invitation to show up as I take command of a cav squadron? Morning of 7th December, which I hope isn't poor ju-ju.

It seems to be impossible for me to travel without incident. Looks like the Belgians gave me COVID. I think this is my third go-around, I'm getting a bit tired of it.

However, in the meantime, there's just enough time to get another T-shirt out before Christmas. As before, looking for suggestions for what you guys might want on it.

For those who may happen to be around and not following my FB, a heads-up. I’ll be at the open house at the Fort Moore National Armor and Cavalry Collection on Saturday morning, and expect me to be bouncing around Belgium the first week of October. Likely Brussels, then Bastogne, then some place north of Brussels.

The Belgium trip is an experiment. I’m using the Patreon money and hiring a camera/audio guy. We’ll see if the resulting improvement in quality is worth the expense.

Another audio upgrade.

Well, the Deity shotgun mike saved my ass on the recent filming trip to Warren, MI, as the Sarmonics I’ve been using for years failed me yet again. I must assume a hardware fault at this point. So, time to put the Patreon money to even more capital asset use. Video chap I work with at Wargaming recommended the Rodes, plus it seems they also have an internal record facility in addition to transmit as a further backup.

Here’s hoping you’ll see a return to consistent audio in releases in a few months (I’ve a backlog of filmed trips to go through yet).

Incidentally, I can attest that crawling in/out of tanks results in high hardware attrition.

Recent events have indicated that I needed a better backup to the lav mikes (which seem to die every couple of months) than the built-in on the camera.  So, one directional shotgun mike. Hopefully when the lav dies un-noticed in future, this will do a better job of reducing the loss of quality.

That's a different problem from the excess gain such as the day I recorded the Ford 3-ton, M1, and a bunch of others yet to come. But as they say, experience is a terrible teacher. It teaches you what you need to know after you needed to know it.

ARGH!!!!

Every time I go to film, I tell myself, "make sure your gear isn't visible in the background". And every time I go to film, I somehow manage to miss small pieces of gear almost hidden in a corner....

Well, COVID sucks.... but I'm back on it.

So I picked up the virus my last day in Finland, and it's had me in bed the last few days which has set me behind schedule. However, I am a little more up to it, and starting to work on my backlog. May not be released this Satuday due to more travel, but one can guess what the next release is...

Well, the Challenger 1's the last video I have filmed, so I need to get on the road and film more. So my travels are going to take me to Richmond.

So, considering a meal and a pint for dinner that evening, if anyone's around and has a good, scenic, not-too-loud location in mind.

T-Shirt Caption

So the other suggestion I'm going with for the next release is a Bob Semple shirt, but I'm not sure what text should go on it. Right now, it's just a simple "Semple!", but if there's any particular preference for anything else, from "Fear the Semple!" to "Sempley Dangerous" or whatever, I'll take ideas.

So much for that trip… cancelled.

Got as far as Houston, delayed flight missed the last connection. All flights the following day booked until late. Not worth my continuing on to Benning for a half-day so I’m just turning around and going home tomorrow morning. Then I get to fight customer care to try to recoup some of the expenses. To include the pre-paid car rental…

Will likely reschedule for mid August. Sorry. I know you’re all eager for some new vehicles to be covered.
