Little Friends. The History of Fairies

**A-. Some prime examples of size difference and its results on monster-human culture. You’re showing definite improvement. Might want to reconsider some of your sources.**

By the time fairies made themselves known to humans, they weren’t even surprised to discover this new species. Gorgons, elves, goblins and demons had already crossed their threshold, a trend that was starting to be called “coming out from under the bed” in The Age of Discovery.

Much like the elves, fairies were one of the species most gifted with magic. Between their small size and natural affinity with manipulating their surroundings, it was easy enough for them to hide from and reveal themselves to humans. Their informal and relatively individualized lifestyles lead to them simply appearing to humans across the planet, leaving the world government scrabbling to track and register them as citizens and a species. While this proved more tedious for the government, the overall lack of backlash or repercussions for their sudden appearance showed that the human mindset was growing to accept other species as an unavoidable and welcome part to their world.

Fairies are the tiniest of the races, even shorter than halflings and gnomes. According to the official Stackers blog, the last reported average size of a fairy is roughly twelve inches tall. Their bodies are skinny to the point of androgyny in some of them, with their small size and tendency to give off glitter from their beating wings making it harder to tell from a distance. The majority are pale flesh colors while bearing large wings resembling a moth or butterfly. While one of the few main races known to fly, the wings do not possess enough force to lift even their lightweight bodies. Their means of flight is a delicate balance of natural magic and their actual wings, making some researchers compare them closer to fins than wings in actual function. They are still vital for any controlled flying, so grooming them is generally a fairy’s primary concern. Thick substances can render them grounded, with the most common reported example being semen (according to Liam Foster’s  Fae Inside and Out).

The wings excrete a fine “pixie dust,” a glittery powder that falls from them as a sort of excess magic (compared to skin flakes) from their flight. It gives a subtle tingling sensation but fades rapidly once it appears.

Fairies are assumed to have come from a similar evolutionary tree to elves and possibly demons. Regardless of folklore (with “fae” including elves, fairies, gods and the like), fairy anatomy does not rely on physics. Despite having slender bodies, wings like butterflies and builds like Q-tips, fairies are remarkably durable. They have the approximate strength and durability of a human, so while their hands can’t cover the same space as a normal person, fairies can lift many times their own bodyweight. With the right lever, it’s not uncommon for them to lift a gallon of milk or a small child while maintaining low flight. Even some of their body fluids are inexplicably colored, including their purple blood and rainbow-colored cum.

Similar to goblins, fairies proved to be a low maintenance species. They needed little food and could salvage most of it through nature, whether gathering a piece of fruit for a full meal or hunting insects for protein. Fairies proved to be supportive towards other races, as their magic joined with elves to solve many global crises but had surprising success in creating alternative proteins in bug farming. Fairies themselves had been hunting them as a secretive food source for centuries, and their speedy preparation methods proved valuable in helping supply the food needed for the spike in public population.

Clothing proved to be simple, as common doll clothes proved suitable for their needs. Several toy companies turned to making more customized fairy clothing, relying on the sudden need for stylish but tiny clothing bought in bulk. Many fairies lived as housemates to humans before they stabilized their economic situation, buying up “micro homes” that were little more than oversized bird or doll houses.

Despite their visible incompatibility, fairies are known to be very social and sexual with other races. Their flight and enhanced strength make them able to live and speak on human scale, and their morally loose and free-spirited nature make them very prone to partying, mingling, exploring and sex. While they are most compatible with goblins, elves, dwarves and other less-endowed creatures, many situations have arisen of fairies finding partners in humans. The convenience of a larger partner and human’s fascination with the magical little creatures make them gel nicely, even if the matter of genitalia remains a work in progress.

Despite their durability making this possible (if difficult), actual reproduction does not seem possible. While genetics are an issue, the greater issue is matters of size. Fairy females often report being launched off their mate or simply flooded rather than filled, based on their position, and fairy males have effectively zero chance of reaching a human womb.

Fairy were a strange but welcome addition to humanity and their allies, and as the smallest and only consistently flying species, they expanded the boundaries that people would be willing to work with. Some researchers believe it was the tolerance brought on by fairies, demons and gorgons in particular that they would later be prepared to deal with the more aggressive behavior of orcs.

Well, now I'm kind of curious to see a fairy guy and a human girl. Like, how creative would they have to get to make that work?

Bruce
