Dev Update

Hey everyone wanted to let you know how development is going.

I've been working on the final dungeon, the final boss and the ending of the game and at this point everything is playable and the game can be "beaten" but everything need to be fleshed out a lot more. Art and animation remain the largest tasks but playtesting and polish will take a lot of time as well. I'll post a link to my current task list.

On the side I've worked on various additions throughout the game that should hopefully make a fresh playthrough interesting once the game is finally finished.

I have been considering the possibility of adding a kemonomimi or humanized option for dragon and beastform based on suggestions from players. While customization options are the bane of progress I have implemented these additions to hero's base form and they are currently undergoing playtesting for any issues.

I had initially hoped to be able to release the steam version of Monster Souls this October. Unfortunately I don't think it is feasible to meet that release date. It is challenging to stay motivated on a project for so many years but I certainly do not want to release the game before it's ready. I think I have to push the release date back to at least Q2 2026. In this case I'm also considering releasing another patreon build with some optional content added while keeping the final chapter obscured for the final release.

I'm not sure when I would be able to release a new build but I will try to complete a few things that are close to being finished and see how things stand.

Thank you all for your support and patience over the years. Watching people play the game and talk about it in the discord, I feel assurance that the game has come a long way and is enjoyable despite some of it's rough edges.

I have been told it is still possible for people in those countries to activate a steam key if it is acquired somewhere other than steam. If that is the case and patrons from those countries want a steam key I will distribute them through patreon. If there are patrons who do not want to play the final game on steam at all, I still have to work out how I want to handle that.
