Two Seconds of Pain, Nine Hours of Work

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to give you another quick status update.

I’m still deep in the trenches working on the battle scenes. I put together a pretty cool video, only about two seconds long, but ran into some visual bugs I couldn’t fix in the 3D software I use for renders and animations.

One of my buddies suggested I just throw it into an AI and tell it what to fix. Sounded good in theory, but yeah... it completely butchered the video.

So I had to go the manual route. I exported the whole thing frame by frame as PNGs. At 60 frames per second, that’s 120 images for just two seconds of footage. And no, it wasn’t just a simple "click next, fix, repeat" process. Each frame took about one to two minutes to clean up. I ended up spending the last two days editing this tiny clip, around nine hours total, squeezed in between my day job.

Honestly, I want to complain. And I kind of am. But at the same time, it wasn’t hard work. Just tedious. I had some videos running in the background while I edited, watched some Critical Role, which was great. Speaking of, if you’ve got any recommendations for second-screen content, send them my way. I love having something chill on while doing stuff that doesn’t need 100 percent focus.

Anyway, the two-second video is finally done and I posted it in the Primordial channel on Discord for those of you who are in there. (Please don’t upgrade your sub just to see it, it’s really just two seconds. Use that money to treat yourself to something tasty instead.)

With that out of the way, I’m back to working on the rest of the combat content. It’s going to be wild once it’s all together.
