Mage Assassin 2 Chapter 5 (Sex Scene)

Nara stood up from her seat and stormed toward the door. It was the exit she was probably hoping to do earlier, but at least now, she had an excuse to pull it off.

“This isn’t over,” the Headmistress said in a very non-threatening tone. “I will convince you to take on this job. I will!”

“Bring money and proof, and then I’ll be pretty convinced,” I called out to her.

Nara grunted loudly just to show me how pissed she was, and before I knew it, she had disappeared.

Even though the witch was out of sight, I could still hear her platform heels clicking furiously on the wooden floor, but then a beautiful Ember Priestess sidled through the door frame.

She closed the door and turned the lock behind her, and the moment I heard the metal clink, she’d commanded my full attention.

Cinis’ huge black wings with the hooks on the top ridge stayed folded neatly behind her, and her long, silky black hair tumbled loose around her luscious frame. She was leather-clad in a strappy black number with her thighs and abdomen fully exposed, and I let my gaze drift down from her large breasts to her swaying hips.

“Cinis.” I smirked. “What a pleasure it is to see you again.”

“Likewise,” she purred in a smooth and seductively low tone.

Just this one word sent a shiver of arousal down my spine.

Cinis was born from raw embers and resided in the Ardere outside of Ocadia. She was a descendant of the fire deities, but she was also the woman I’d been spending most of my nights with lately.

The Ember Priestess wasn’t at all like Ephy, who bounded over to me and showered me with love and affection. Cinis’ love was more smoldering and enticing, and she came directly toward me with heat burning in her red-amber eyes.

Then our lips met, and a jolt of white-hot energy sparked between our tongues as Cinis moaned into my mouth.

The heat of her whole body radiated against my front, and I didn’t say a word as I reached down to take hold of her luscious backend. I lifted her and perched her on the edge of my oak desk in one swift movement, and Cinis kept kissing me as I settled myself between her splayed thighs.

The priestess’ hands wandered lower to undo my belt for me, and I focused on roving my hands all over her soft legs and up under her strappy skirt. Then her warm hand closed around my already hard cock, and I gasped against her lips.

“I’ve missed you, Master Morgan,” Cinis purred. “I’ve missed your cock deep inside of me and your seed pouring into my womb.”

“Cinis, you don’t need to call me--”

The Ember Priestess guided my erection to her heated pussy before I could get another word out, and I didn’t hesitate to thrust my full length into her waiting tunnel. The moment our bodies joined, we were lost in each other’s presence, and the desk creaked as I immediately quickened my thrusts.

I didn’t take my time with Cinis today, either. I fucked her hard and deep as I kept her hips gripped firmly in place, and the priestess panted in my ear from the force.

She didn’t try to take control or torment me in the slightest, she just stayed right where I put her on the table and let me fuck her as I pleased, and I let her scorching powers surge through every inch of my body. Every thrust sent another dose of smoldering heat through my cock and up my spine, and I fed off the feeling as I pounded into the priestess more relentlessly.

Having the descendent at my disposal like this always improved my days tenfold, and I forgot all about Nara’s concerns and my long to do list. I just focused on Cinis’ shuddering body, and the way her wet pussy clamped around my shaft and scalded in the most pleasurable way made me greedy for more.

The desk shook as Cinis’ gasps turned into smoky whimpers, and she clutched onto my shoulders to brace herself while she started to shriek softly with every thrust.

Then I locked eyes with her.

The priestess’ eyes were dark red and adoring as her luscious body jolted in my grasp, and she looked at me like I could have anything I asked for at that moment.

“Cum for me,” I ordered her, and the Ember Priestess’ heated tunnel spasmed at once.

The way she moaned pushed me over the edge, and I kept thrusting harder and harder as her quivering pussy coaxed more and more of my seed from my throbbing cock. Two piles of papers scattered to the floor as her wings shot backward, but she spread her legs wide like she couldn’t get enough as I sprayed another river of cum into the priestess’ womb.

I didn’t stop pounding into her until both of us were shaking from the sensations rocking our bodies, and even then, she stayed right where I put her and clung to me while she fought to catch her breath.

Her powers were vibrating through my bones, and I felt feverish with her heat, but in the best way. I braced my weight on the wooden tabletop while my cock twitched inside her sopping wet tunnel, but I didn’t want to pull out of her just yet. I stayed right where I was between her legs until I could breathe steadily again, and then I took her face in my hand to lay a kiss on her full lips.

“I love when you visit me at work,” I whispered.

“Always at your disposal,” the priestess chuckled quietly.

Then she gasped as I slid my cock from her dripping tunnel, and I helped her back to the floor with a smirk on her face. She was flushed and smoking a little as I brushed a kiss on her cheek, and her skin burned my lips.

“So, who was that who just left?” Cinis asked lightly as she slid into the chair. “She seems wild. I like her.”

“Nara,” I returned with a slight chuckle, and I got my belt situated again. “She’s the Headmistress of the Witches’ Estate.”

“Feisty,” she purred. “But not as feisty as me, I’m sure.”

“No one could be,” I told her in all seriousness. “But what are you doing here? I thought you were in the Ardere for the day?”

“Well, I desperately needed to feel your cock filling me,” she sighed and twirled a bit of her black hair in her fingertip. “But I also found out something special is happening at the Ardere. I thought you would probably like to know.”

“Of course,” I replied. “What is it?”

“Well… I’ve been told that I’m next in line to become the ruler of the Ardere,” she explained in an even tone, but her wings started to glow with excitement.

“What?” I gasped. “Are you serious? You’ll… rule the entire Ardere?”

“Mmhmm!” she chuckled.

“That’s amazing, Cin!” I laughed, and I dragged her up into my arms.

Cinis smiled and threw her arms around my neck, and I wove my hands in her long black hair as our lips met once again

I could hardly fathom that I’d just fucked the future ruler of the Ardere on my desk.

And she’d obeyed my commands for it.

“This is incredible news,” I said when I finally released her lips.

“I know,” she snickered. “I really wasn’t expecting it at all. I know I’m the first Ember Priestess, but before, when Ignis was around, I felt like everyone hated me because I went against him.”

“But now he’s gone…” I trailed as I leaned my weight on the desk behind me.

“But now he’s gone, and it turns out they admire me quite a lot because I was the one who actually defied him!” Cinis exclaimed. “They were all just so scared to put a foot out of line when he was in charge, and now that they can live as they please, they seem so grateful for what I did.”

“Considering how you were treated by them, I think it’s only fair,” I reminded her.

“That’s true,” she sighed and drummed her fingers on her bare thigh. “But it’s all a bit a bittersweet. This means I’ll be even more wrapped up in the happenings at the Ardere. I’ll be here even less than I am now.”

“You mean less than every single evening?” I chuckled, and she rolled her eyes playfully. “I guessed as much, Cin, but this is still fantastic news. I’m sure a chance like this is worth anything.”

“I know, that’s why I didn’t even give the position a second thought,” she carried on. “I’m still going to be back here regularly, of course, how could I not?”

“Good.” I smiled. “I’ll look forward to the days when I can spend time with you.”

“Well, that brings me onto my next thing,” she started, “which is that I’ll probably need your help to get everyone in line.”

“To get… fire beings in line?” I clarified.

“Well, as I said, the majority of Ignis’ former followers have completely changed their tune when it comes to my place among them,” Cinis continued, “but there’s still quite a few I need to convince. Oh, and then there’s the planning for the crowning… so, be prepared.”

“I will do anything you need me to,” I chuckled. “I just want to congratulate you. I’m glad the Ardere is seeing the real you, Cinis. It’s about time.”

“Yeah, it is,” she agreed.

Cinis had been treated so poorly under the ruling of her fire titan uncle because his views were vastly different from hers. When he was around, she didn’t even live in the main palaces with the rest of the Ember Priestesses. Instead, she lived on her own in a kind of exile, far on the other side of the ember fields.

When I had first met her, she was convinced everyone who came to see her was there to kill her, and she was right, for the most part. I had gone there to assassinate her, but we quickly realized it was a setup, and now, her dictator of an uncle was finally slain. His former followers had apparently celebrated the loss with a week-long celebration, and at the end of everything, they looked to Cinis with their thanks.

Because of her, Ignis was finally forced out into the open and dealt with once and for all, and she was blossoming into a powerful leader already.

“We should have a party here,” I suggested. “Since you’ll be officially crowned soon.”

“Oh, I like that idea,” she chuckled. “But let’s wait until everything has actually happened, first… just in case I get overthrown before I even become a proper ruler.”

She laughed at the thought, but I could sense the nervousness underneath from the way she clasped her hands tightly together on her lap. She was a confident woman, but taking over the Ardere was a large task.

“I’m sure you won’t be overthrown,” I said with a grin. “I’ve seen you fight.”

“True,” Cinis said with a smirk. “Anyway, enough about me. How’s Ephy? Have you seen her?”

“I went to see her today, actually,” I started. “Well, first she called to me through the waters. She sounded a little sad, so I went to see her at the pond.”

“She sounded sad?” Cinis repeated and looked at me with a puzzled expression. “That doesn’t seem like her.”

Cinis was still anxious over the Ardere, and I didn’t want to tell her right away that the water goddesses practically made me leave the pond, so instead, I tried to sidestep the topic a bit.

“Yeah, but when I got there we had a really great time.” I smiled.

“But what was she sad about?” the Ember Priestess pressed. “Did she just miss you, or was there something more? Because normally, she’s not sad either way, she just tells you in her happy little voice how much her heart is breaking to be near you.”

“She does,” I chuckled in agreement. “I love when she does that.”

“Me, too,” Cinis said with a soft smile. “So, what’s going on?”

“Well,” I began and scratched my head. “There was something else that happened when I was there, but only after already spending a couple hours with her.”

Cinis re-adjusted herself on the seat in front of me, and she let her wings tuck snug around her.

“Which is…” she led.

“I don’t know exactly what it all meant,” I admitted. “But, when I was there, the wind started to howl, and the temperature plummeted. Then the glow of the pond dimmed and started pulsing, and the weirdest part was that the lily pads in the water started to close the pond over.”

Cinis took in a deep breath and looked at me with wide, red-amber eyes.

“Tell me Ephy went underneath the pond and didn’t stay outside of it,” she insisted.

“She went under,” I confirmed. “She was saying she had to, but I thought I could find a way to bring her back here.”

“The pond is her home, Dex,” Cinis reminded me. “Unless she asks you to take her from there, you really can’t drag her away from it. She’s bound to it.”

“I know,” I sighed. “She said something about the water goddesses needing her, or not being happy about non-water entities visiting, or something like that. So, I thought for a moment that it could help her.”

“This was the water goddesses doing?” Cinis asked, and the black freckles across her face glowed a soft amber.

“Yeah,” I replied.

“Dex, you have to be careful with them,” she said. “If the siren is the goddesses’ property, then you could both be in trouble if you ignore the signs they are giving you.”

“But how can a person be god’s property?” I asked and tried not to roll my eyes.

“Because she isn’t a person like you or even me, Dex,” Cinis reminded me. “She lives to serve the water goddesses. She’s a water entity, and her spirit is made of the water of her goddesses.”

“But--” I started.

“Dex,” she sighed. “The goddesses control everything to do with the waters, they are elemental gods, it’s what they do. Ephy needs those waters, specifically the pond that the goddesses reside in. It’s just how it is.”

“I understand that Ephy’s bound to the pond, but is there some way to break that bond safely?” I tried. “I’m not saying that I will. At least, not until she asks me to, but I need to know for myself. See, she went underneath the water’s surface, and now the pond has completely grown over. The glow has vanished, the water is buried in a blanket of lilypads, and I don’t know if I’ll ever hear from her again, never mind see her.”

Cinis pursed her lips together and then let out a deep sigh.

“I do remember something similar happening,” the Ember Priestess started. “I’m not positive on the details, but it was with a fire entity, so I don’t know how similar the situation would be.”

“Can you find out for me?” I asked.

“Of course.” She smirked. “You know I’d do anything for you, Dex. I’ll see what I can find out.”

“Thanks.” I smiled. “But you know you’re also doing this for Ephy.”

“Oh, absolutely,” Cinis snorted. “That little siren is the cutest fucking thing I’ve ever seen. I can’t even think of her frowning without feeling frazzled about how to fix it.”

The two of us laughed together for a moment, and I already felt more relaxed again. There was something about Cinis that incited safety, even if she was one of the most powerful fire beings in the kingdom.

“You said that they were elemental goddesses?” I clarified. “What is the difference between them and say, Ignis. He was a fire titan, but you mentioned having devoted your life to him?”

“Well, as you could tell, I wasn’t strictly bound to him,” Cinis said. “Ignis wondered where I was, but he couldn’t find me once I had escaped the Ardere because he is not elemental. Those gods, like Ignis used to be, live in the clouds. They are born into power and rule lots of different things. Compared to the elemental gods, their powers aren’t so impressive.”

“But I thought the gods from the clouds were the most powerful beings,” I said.

“It’s difficult to explain,” Cinis said as she whittled the black straps of her skirt between her fingers. “I guess strength-wise the gods in the clouds are the more impressionable beings, but there are four groups of elemental gods, and they rule over everything, really. Without those elemental gods there would be no life in the kingdom, or anywhere at all.”

“True, but the same applies to the harvest gods,” I reminded her. “There’d be no life here without them.”

“No, there would be,” she returned. “We only need the harvest gods now because they can take the harvest away from us, but if there was nobody to oversee harvests in the first place, then we could flourish without them. The elemental gods provide the balance that we need to survive.”

“I see.” I nodded. “I’m not clear on the elemental gods distinction, though.”

“Well, you have the five elemental water goddesses, who you’ve met,” Cinis explained. “They are the only elemental gods who act as one group. The elemental gods of fire, air, and land are all individual beings, and they exist as the water goddesses do. They are here among us, and all throughout this world, wherever their element abounds. They will never be destroyed or conquered because they are their elements, and everything around us is influenced by them directly.”

“That makes sense,” I decided.

“Then there are the sky gods,” she continued. “Think of them as the family tree of these elemental gods. I am descended from the fire deities in the clouds, the titans are the fallen gods from the clouds, and as you know, the fallen can be destroyed. So can the sky gods. The sky gods battle amongst themselves and even with the mortals when they get too bored up there.”

“So, all the sky gods could be defeated, as long as their opponent was smarter or stronger in some way?” I asked.

“Yes, think about what you did to Ignis,” the Ember Priestess chuckled. “I’m sure there are plenty of other mortals who have defeated the sky gods, but they mostly fight amongst themselves.”

“But these elemental gods, like the water goddesses,” I continued. “They’ll never be destroyed or conquered?”

“Never.” Cinis shrugged, and her black wings shifted in response. “There is no one who is ‘next in line’ to be an elemental god, and there was nobody before them. They exist to exist eternally.”

“Do you think they’ll hate me forever, then?” I asked with a grim smirk.

“Not at all,” Cinis laughed. “They live to serve a purpose, they don’t care for grudges, but they also don’t care for being friends.”

I thought back to the siren and how she told me a similar thing. I guessed I needed someone to confirm it for me to believe that it was real, but apparently, it was more difficult to stay in an immortal’s graces than I imagined.

“Thank you, Cinis.” I smiled. “You always know how to ease my mind.”

“I’m just truthful,” she sighed.

“Exactly.” I playfully rolled my eyes. “It’s always what I need.”

“Will you be alright here for a while?” Cinis asked. “You won’t moon all day over Ephy if I have to go back to the Ardere for a bit?”

“I’m sure I’ll survive,” I snorted.

“Good, but it’s just for the day,” the Ember Priestess said. “If you don’t see or hear from me, then you know why. So, don’t get worried and feel like you have to go murder a slew of enemies for me again.”

“It was only one enormous, lava-spewing enemy,” I said lightly and pushed my weight up from the edge of the desk. “But I’m not eager to take on a titan anytime soon, so I’ll just trust you’re fine.”

Cinis stood up and slipped her arms around my waist, and I kissed her slow and deep while she whimpered the tiniest bit. In a matter of seconds, her passion overran her, and our tongues tangled together as the innate heat of her billowed through me. When our lips parted, she sent me a smoldering look through her glowing, red-ember eyes, and I tried to remind myself that I’d only just fucked her fifteen minutes ago.

Then she sauntered toward the door without another word, and I was left standing in the office with only the memory of her heated body while her wings and hips sidled out the door.

I was utterly mesmerized by Cinis every time I saw her. She was unlike anyone I had ever met before, and she loved showing up at any hour of the day to fuck me no matter what I was up to. It always took a moment to bring myself back to reality when she was gone, and I tried to recall what I was supposed to be doing while I regathered all the spilled papers from the floor.

Then I quickly poked my head into the hallway and called to Mazne, who was already coming in my direction.

“What’s next on the schedule?” I asked the curly-haired receptionist.

“Umm.” She rushed over with a wad of papers and scrambled through them as she came closer to me. “Well, everyone’s waiting to hear about their tasks this week, so here--”

Mazne handed me a pile of papers that were the new and sorted assignments for the week while she juggled the rest of her stacks between her arms. Half the papers scattered to the floor during the hand off, and both of us smacked heads together when we moved to get them at once.

“I’ve got it,” I chuckled.

“I’m so sorry,” she groaned. “I will sort this all out, I swear! But everyone should be in that pile.”

“Okay, great,” I laughed as I snatched the last few papers from the floor. Then I propped the door of the office open. “Could you send for the others, Maz? Give me five minutes to sort all of this out, and then two minutes between each person.”

“Alright,” Mazne returned. “I’ll tell Pamphrus, now. He was in the reception area just a minute ago.”

Mazne headed down the hall, and I returned to my desk before I took a seat and reached for the knob on the last drawer to my right. Thanks to the strange branding Master Abbot had bestowed on me, the eternally locked drawer opened right up for me, and I pulled out the files of my assassins and plunked the stack on the desk.

There were twenty-two who lived in the house, including me, but everyone had different skill sets, and I couldn’t make the mistake of giving a job to someone who was too inexperienced for the role. I also couldn’t overload certain assassins with task upon task and risk exposing their identities being tied to a string of murders.

I skimmed through the many disorganized papers Mazne had given me and sorted out the ideal assassins for each case. On each parchment, we listed who the target was, where to find them at what time, and any recommendations for the proper choice of weapon when applicable. We also made sure to note any particular dangers based on the location of the assassination or the abilities of the target themselves, but if the assassins wanted more knowledge about the background of the case, then I was always more than happy to fill them in myself.

Still, we never wrote down the names of the clients who hired the hit on these documents, in case the files somehow went missing.

“Master?” Mazne announced and lightly tapped her fist on the door. “Pamphrus is ready for you now.”

“Okay, come in Pamphrus,” I returned.

I piled the other names along with their tasks together and pulled his file out before me.

Pamphrus was the buffest assassin in the whole estate. I was tall, but he was even taller. He stood at nearly seven feet, and his tattooed biceps bulged around his torso at an alarming size. Pamphrus always wore charcoal around his eyes, too, which only made him that much more unnerving to behold, and he lumbered a bit when he walked, so his muscular arms swung around threateningly.

Pamphrus lumbered his way into the office now, and when he sat down, he filled out the chair so much that he had to squeeze his hips into it. Then he placed his axe-wielding hands on the desk.

“So, what’s coming up for me this week?” he asked in a gravelly voice.

I nudged his personal stack of papers toward him and gave him a moment to skim through them. I had piled up four tasks for him this week, and he hummed as he read through the brief synopsis I had given him.

“First one should be easy,” I told him. “Just a man who’s been into gambling too much without paying up.”

“I see,” Pamphrus muttered. “And then we have a naga…”

“Yes, obviously, that’s a bit harder,” I said. “But I saw him in the inn near the Lord’s House at the town centre a few weeks ago, and I’ve checked to confirm he’s a regular. He’s there four times a week minimum, so you’ll be able to find him there without anyone else from his estate around. His favorite three rooms are marked there on the paper, but don’t wear anything too flammable. He meets with a rogue fire naga there, and she’s known to have a temper, so tread carefully.”

“Hmm,” Pamphrus grunted, and he smirked like he was looking forward to the challenge. “This harpy you’ve got on here’s gonna be a pickle. Why does she need killing?”

“She murdered a human boy on her hunt last week, and the family wants revenge,” I told him.

“Yeah, that happens,” he said and flicked the pages shut. “Sounds like a good week for me.”

“I thought I would only give you a few this week, just in case more things arise,” I returned. “Keep an ear out.”

“Yes, Master,” the large assassin replied and grinned at me.

Pamphrus was one of the first assassins who agreed heartily that I was best suited to be the next Master. We always had a mutual type of respect, and it was nice knowing that I could count on him to not fuck up.

“Could you tell Mazne that I’m ready for the next one?” I asked him as he lumbered back to the door.

“Aye, Master,” he grunted, and I marked off his list of approved cases in his file before I slid it to the side.

Next to come in was Spodium. She was the newest member of the team, and last week was her first week officially on the job. Albeit, she only had one task.

“Hi, Master!” she boomed in her loud voice.

Spodium was an overly bubbly character, and it didn’t match her looks at all. She was a peasant-looking woman, with an ugly face, and ankles as thick as her thighs. But, she was a lovely person and had really gotten focused on her training. She was still flighty, but she was practicing and getting better everyday.

“Hi, Spodium,” I greeted her back.

“So, am I doing another task this week?” she asked with wide eyes. “Because, you know, I did that one last week? Well, it was amazing! I felt my heart nearly pop out of my chest. I was so nervous about it all, but then BANG, I got him. The shot wasn’t that good, I only got him in the stomach the first time, but the second time I got him in the head, and he died! And then I remembered that I had to get out of there, but my legs felt like jelly. It was exciting, though! So, am I doing it again?”

I laughed at her as she explained her debacle. I loved all aspects of our work, and that feeling never died, so it was nice to hear someone speak with the excitement I always felt, even if her nerves hadn’t worked themselves out just yet on the job.

“I have something better,” I replied. “I have two jobs for you this week. Sound good?”

“Oh, hell yes!” Spodium chortled. “What are they?”

I did the same with her as I did with Pamphrus and pushed the smaller stack of papers toward her so she could start reading them for herself.

“Wow,” she breathed.

“Now, they’re both easy kills, but I want you to carry on practicing,” I said.

“No, I love them!” she boasted. “So, what am I killing the elf for?”

“Simple bribery,” I replied. “Nothing too heavy, but this was on the docket before the Master died, so I’m leaving that to you to fulfill his wishes.”

“Okay, great!” Spodium nodded eagerly. “And the human?”

“The human has been involved in perjury,” I confessed. “Broke his oath in the court of the Lords.”

“Oh, wow,” the woman said.

“Everything you need to know about both targets should be written on those papers for you,” I told the newbie. “So, read over them, but I suggest doing some more research into elves as a species, and pick out what weapons you’re going to use based on that. I’ve left it up to you this time, so you’re gaining some more experience independently. You can spend the next couple of days practicing with whatever device you decide on.”

“I will, Master,” she said and bowed her head extremely low.

Because she barely knew Master Abbot, it seemed that it was an easy transition for her to see me as this new person who was above everyone else around here. For the rest of us, it was stranger, and even seeing her bow toward me made me slightly uncomfortable.

I was just Dex, really, even though I wasn’t anymore.

Spodium stood up from her chair and bowed to me yet again before she headed for the door.

“Incrassatum is out by here,” she called.

I nodded and marked off her cases in her file, and then I waited for the more experienced, peasant-looking woman to enter.

Incrassatum’s docket was always filled with the most distasteful people because she handled them in a way she felt was fit. While the rest of the assassins would use a sword, or a bow, or anything of that manner to quickly kill the target and leave, Incrassatum would torture, skin, or do whatever she needed to do for her own sort of personal revenge.

“Large docket this week,” I announced to her.

Instead of pushing the stack of papers toward Incrassatum, she snatched them from the desk and started to read through them. She scoffed now and then at the names, but she flicked through them all quickly.

On the papers were a sorcerer involved with nymph trafficking, alongside a murderer, and a few other unsavory types.

“Any questions?” I asked when Incrassatum pushed herself up from the seat.

“No, Master,” she replied and turned to leave. “I’ll see it’s all handled accordingly.”

Incrassatum was like me on the job. She never needed to know the backgrounds. I think that was because the jobs she was given were sometimes so brutal that it would only make things worse if she knew the grittier details. Her docket was slightly different, because next to each case, I wrote just one word summing up what the person did to deserve to be murdered. This was so she could choose her unique punishment accordingly.

After Incrassatum left, I continued to dish out assassinations until everyone was accounted for. There was still plenty more to hand out in the upcoming weeks that had come in since the defeat of Ignis, but also cases that were in place from when the Master was still alive. If I had the time, I would have possibly picked up a few of the excess jobs myself, and the idea was incredibly tempting, but I wasn’t tying myself to anything at the moment.

I was trying to figure out this whole Master of the estate thing.

I closed this week’s docket folder that was now empty and called Mazne in to take the rest of the papers back. She had her own file with everyone’s given tasks, and she would know to sort out the required uniforms with the estate seamstress. She always knew when the assassins were set to leave, too, so she could inform me if they didn’t return within an allotted time frame.

Mazne might not have been an assassin herself, but she had proven to be a vital asset within the estate.

Now that the week’s assignments had been handled, I clicked my fingers and hurried over to the door and closed it before sitting back down.

It was finally time to start in on the case that needed my personal attention, and I was actually pretty eager to get started.

I had a royal scandal to investigate on behalf of our king.
