Rome In A Day | March 2023 Update
Added 2023-03-01 23:54:55 +0000 UTCFor the second time, let me open this update with:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Things have been goddamn HECTIC. And I'm never quite sure how much Canipa Effect viewers care about the reason behind stuff being infrequent (or weirdly frequent), but here you go...
In August of 2022, I moved back from Japan to Australia. In November of 2022, I bought a total wreck of a house and started renovating it. Two weeks ago, in February of 2023, I finally moved into that house.
Every single weekend since late-November has been spent painting, tearing apart a kitchen, putting together IKEA furniture, etc. etc. etc. And basically, it's all very good now, but that meant I had no time to actually make videos. That's why the Hunter x Hunter video (which was meant to be an early January video) ended up coming out in early March.
As soon as I moved into this house, I've used all my new free time to create two videos: "Chainsaw Man Is A Commercial Failure - Anime Mythbusters" and "What Would A New Hunter x Hunter Anime Look Like?"
The first was made entirely in three days. I had a sponsor lined up for a February video, and then I was contacted by NexStage, whose work I really admire, to do another sponsorship for late February. I'd already signed a contract with RAID, so I ended up creating an entirely new video for it, and thankfully, there was a topic I really wanted to talk about. The "What are Blurays place in anime financials" topic is one that's kind of been prime Mythbusters material for a while now, but this made it seem timely, which was nice.
The HxH video was a much longer process. The script was written 2 months ago, and I'd been slowly editing it in the evenings until I finally spent all of last weekend putting together the rest (and rerecording all the audio, since the environments are different now). I wasn't sure about it for a while, but I think the topic actually gave me an excuse to talk about a lot of different things. While parts of it are a bit more empty than I would've liked, I enjoyed having the opportunity to talk about long-running shows and the visual identity of remakes.
The next video on The Canipa Effect is "The NieR: Automata Anime Deserves Better". It's a bit spicy, and it basically runs down the constant delays of this season, NieR's production issues, Aniplex's obsession with prestige anime that don't have the time to become prestige, and ultimately, why NieR: Automata doesn't work without a more impressive production.
Stay tuned, and thanks for bearing with me!

< Seconding everything mentioned in the comment above this. At least in my eyes, you're fine and I look forward to your new videos when you settle in!

2023-03-07 17:07:10 +0000 UTCThanks! It absolutely is a more comfortable environment, in more ways than one. I finally have a comfy chair, for one! Definitely more confident I can hit a regular schedule from here on out, but yeah... not sure if there's anything I can do about the algorithm.
