Planning Ahead | May 2022 Update

Once upon a time, when I'd just graduated high school and was starting out on Youtube, I was told by a Youtube Network manager that all the big Youtubers had their videos planned out months in advance and were mostly just waiting for the prime time to release them.

I'm not sure if I count as a "big" Youtuber, but I can promise you that I'm usually working down to the wire. The biggest time sink is purely trying to work out what video I actually want to make. Should it be on a seasonal show? Is there a topic that's somewhat relevant? What about my backlog, are there any ideas that I can revive? By the time I've come up with something, I only have a couple weeks to write the script, and a couple weeks to edit the video.

However, something amazing happened recently. I stopped caring about how relevant a topic is, and somehow I now have a bunch of video subjects lined up. Here's the schedule I've got so far:

May - Spy x Family is a Brilliant Adaptation

June - Surprise anime video that's been heavily requested

July - Baccano! and Durarara!! are Masterpieces!!!

August - Forgiving Final Fantasy XV

When I write a script, the first paragraph is usually the "Why am I talking about this?" part. So it's usually got some kind of connection with current events. For example, the fanservice video starts with Worlds End Harem. The Gravity Rush video is also a response to the closure of Japan Studio.

But that Baccano/DRRR video is based on absolutely nothing. I just want to talk about one of my favourite anime. The FFXV video? I read the book last year and I've recently been replaying the game. I think if I do more of these kinds of impromptu videos with the same production focus, my planning might get a little less hectic.

Of course, I'm still planning on covering seasonal anime (Spy x Family script complete!), but I think it's worth looking back now and again. To a time where I don't have to mention anime overproduction every second sentence...
