Basically the "drama" is that Sungchan and Shotaro have been in NCT for 3 years now without a new unit. Then SM announced that they'll have a new Japanese unit (which has been anticipated for the past 3-4 years) and everyone assumed it would include Shotaro (who's the second Japanese member along with 127's Yuta) and Sungchan (who's been a trainee since at least 2016-2017 and who a lot of the NCT members had trained with) and became pretty much fluent in Japanese while not only teaching Taro korean but also with taking lessons and going to Japan for promotions. Then Sm had this show called "NCT Universe" which basically introduced the 3 new 2022 SM rookies who were going to join NCT where they had Doyoung & Jungwoo (from NCT 127) and Jeno (NCT Dream) as the MCs that helped them through the show (Not a survival show) and giving them advice as idols. Those SM Rookies were Shohei, Eunseok, and Seunghan and other than Seunghan who joined the company 2019-2020, Eunseok and Shohei trained with some of the NCT members debuted 2018-2019 like WayV and 127's Jungwoo. So the vibes were good and we had a lineup of 5 members for the new NCT Japan unit and the members are people who all the NCT members love and have gotten close with (Sungchan and Shotaro) or people who they became familiar with (Shohei, Eunseok, and Seunghan). Then all of a sudden this year, SM announced that Shohei got injured (which bless him, I hope he's recovering well he waited a long time to debut) and that Sungchan and Shotaro would be removed from NCT and added to their new Boy Group along with Seunghan, Eunseok, and 3 new SM Rookies. That NCT will not be adding new members (we all cheered) after the NCT Japan unit this year. Then they announced two new rookies for NCT's unit and they were a korean and Japanese trainee (just like Shotaro and Sungchan) and decided to hold a survival show for the rest of the members. So basically SM removed Sungchan and Shotaro from NCT not caring about the fact that they were already integrated within the group and the became really close with them and got attached to them for 3 years, replaced them for no reason, and decided to hold a survival show that no one really wanted. Adding Taro and Sungchan and even Seunghan and Eunseok to the new boygroup was obvious for them to gain traction because people already love them (Sungtaro) or have gotten to know them thoroughly through NCT Universe (Seunghan and Eunseok). And it will/did work because NCTzens will always support the Sungchan and Shotaro because we already know what they are capable of as performers and just skills wise but it just sucks that they were removed from NCT. Like some of the members in NCT have talked about the fact that it's unfortunate and they just had a group concert yesterday and left Taro and Sungchan's spots empty when they do like the ending pose of the choreography. I'm glad they finally get their own group and I actually love riize bcs again I already got attached to 4 of the members and the new 3 (Wonbin, Sohee, and Anton) are very cool and talented, but like from an NCTzen's stand point who has watched NCT members love and become friends with Shotaro and Sungchan and have performed with them countless of times, it's just unfortunate. It's also why I have like no interest in Lastart like I'll tune in to their debut if its my vibe but like I'm not watching it bcs the entire situation made it so unappealing to watch for me. (sorry for basically writing an essay lol)
