2026-02-04 05:45:51 +0000 UTCWhile I'm not as big a fan of Yandere Chihaya as you (the friendship, adventure and coming-of-age have always been a central draw for me), I have to admit it is interesting from a character perspective and may not be much of a stretch. Chihaya has a history of self-doubt and a tinge of masochism, but this has typically only been shown in brief stretches that, at least in the moment, seemed more rooted in something bigger - she is more of an introvert and thus more prone to negative self-talk, boundary pushing is just part of part of the cast's extreme freediving, and so on. Whether "Yandere Chihaya" is some "truer" expression of her overall personality or not, one can find small antecedents in the past.

But you could also give Jun a handicap by sending her down in half full scuba gear, or putting Chihaya under for five minutes before Jun starts. I’d want to see how Chihaya deals with such an obvious disadvantage.
