In volume 12, episode 73, as the solar eclipse reaches its peak in the sky, Griffith sees Guts running towards him and wishes for him not to come over. Because if he were to touch him at that moment, he would never again be able to....... And his thoughts trail off. Guts grabs his shoulders, the beherit activates, and the festival begins.
An interesting detail about this scene is that Griffith's final thought was originally complete when the episode was serialized in Young Animal in early 1996. On the previous page, Griffith thinks to himself "オレは二度と", which is followed by "二度とお前を許せなくなる" on the page that interests us. This translates straightforwardly to "I can never forgive you again". In Japanese, it has an interesting nuance, literally meaning that it will turn Griffith into someone who is unable to forgive him.
In the volume, it's shortened to "二度とお前を.......", which leaves the verb out ("cannot forgive"). Because of the way Japanese is constructed, this makes the resulting line difficult to translate in Western languages. The sentence becomes essentially "I...never again...you". While the implication of Griffith's words remain clear, Miura likely decided to omit that part to leave his exact thoughts up to the readers' imagination.
