The Artwork of Berserk interview - First page (part 1)

Now available to Silver and Bronze tiers.

Miura Kentarou-sensei passed away in May 2021 due to an acute aortic dissection. This interview is about what Miura-sensei looked back on from "his 30 years (of artwork)" in the fall of the previous year. To deliver his attitude, always enthusiastically engaged in creating manga, we’re boldly publishing it as it was recorded at the time.

---------------
30 years that flew by

Interviewer: Berserk has reached the year celebrating its 30th anniversary. Please give us your impressions about it.

Miura: To be honest, as I’ve constantly drawn manga calmly, 30 years have flown by… this is my impression. Even looking back again, I think what makes me aware of those “30 years” may be environmental changes rather than my work. Since I moved my studio several times, I’d say I feel the passage of time through that growing number. If this were a normal serialized work, there would be a division where the mangaka has a period of rest after a serialization is over, then the next serialization would start… and his life would be changed accordingly. But, as for my case, I’ve drawn “Berserk” for 30 years at the same pace so nothing has changed despite “the anniversary”. *laughs*

Interviewer: I see, moves are a symbol of the passage of time. Is it maybe because your studio felt cramped as you continued the serialization?

Miura: That’s true, but it’s more like it’s to distract myself. Basically, I have no room to go on a journey, so I’d say by moving once in a while, I enjoy the land (I move to) in place of a journey. I think I’ve moved approximately every 10 years so far, but now I think I want to settle (in one place) eventually.

Thank you Puella! I’ve been waiting for this one, and I’m sure many more have been, too.
