Japanese humor is famously "weird", but it also means Japanese people are good at parodying Berserk in mostly tasteful and funny ways. Here are a few examples of parodies from Japan gathered over the years, sometimes just posted on oekaki or shared randomly.
- The title image is of course a reference to volume 18's cover, but with Pokemon.
- The second image reimagines the beherit as a stereotypical cute girl character.
- This is followed by a couple of Doraemon references, one with Mozgus, the other with a beherit.
- The fifth picture is still all about Mozgus and the beherit, but as M&Ms.
- Then we have a more nuanced joke. Taken from volume 25, this is a pun on the sound the Kelpie makes when Serpico pierces its face. Miura uses a モ (mo) kana but modified with a 濁音 (dakuon), then followed with エエエエ. Dakuon are normally used to indicate a voiced sound, but this use is non-standard because MO is already voiced. It's only used for onomatopoeia, here likely to underline the frog/horse nature of the Kelpie. Anyway, that sound is close to "MOE" (萌え), a slang word used to indicate you find something cute in Japanese. So the artist has Serpico show the Kelpie a "mare" (牝馬) magazine, which provokes that reaction and disrupts it. Phew, and they say one shouldn't have to explain a joke.
- Next up, Schierke is saying (from volume 26) that she has to use her magic to protect everyone. It's the line when they're with Guts in Flora's basement and an apostle is breaking down the door. In the manga, Guts grabs her arm and they put the armor on him. In this alternate version, Schierke's about to unleash the fury by herself.
- In the following picture, Luka gets nervous when, as SK tells her "it's too early to thank me", she spots a bunch of beherits in his mouth. It's based on a scene from volume 20, when they escape the beherit apostle's lair.
- Finally, Guts interrupts some standard fare shounen manga shenanigans. No idea what that other series is, but the absurd contrast between the two is the point.
