Well we still do not know good of a breath holder that Tomo is. As I cannot imagined that he even is on Chihaya’s level yet. At best I would say the swim captain level. So Aya might be the safer choice here seeing how she is the only one around. Who even might rival Saki on a good day. Plus I think that Saki’s judgement probably is affected by her feelings of protecting Tomo.

2025-04-13 20:33:21 +0000 UTCWhile I can see Saki’s point, I’d actually have to side with Tomo here. Yes, the dives are going to be long and arduous, no doubt, but what is Saki’s alternative here? Do it all by herself? I suppose she could ask Aya to act as her assistant, but Tomokazu has the same bloodline and is the direct descendant of a priestess, while Aya MIGHT have had an aunt who acted as one (that was never confirmed), so her brother can argue having holy blood or whatever. Besides, Tomo wouldn’t be performing any of the ceremony, merely acting as a witness or guide, so as long as he wears the proper attire (in this case a speedo brief, or, at most, a jammer), then the fact that he’s a boy shouldn’t matter all that much. If her brother is willing to undergo the training and conditioning required to complete the dive, then I see no reason not to accept the help. Also, Saki, males naturally have larger lungs and a higher lung capacity, so even if you could find another priestess descendant, it would be easier to train your brother from scratch rather than a girl who has no experience underwater.
