Miura's new year card for 2000

Kentarou Miura used to send new year cards to his friends and acquaintances as well as to some of the fans who wrote to him. They always featured special illustrations to commemorate the coming year, often related to the Chinese Zodiac.

This is a rare look at one of the earliest such cards we know of. It was made for 2000, which was the year of the dragon in the Chinese Zodiac. That's why it features Puck disguised as Bruce Lee, since the martial artist was famously nicknamed after the mythological animal.

On Puck's chestnut nunchaku is written 賀正 (GASHOU), which means "happy new year". It's also the sound Puck shouts above while giving a jumping kick, a joke based on Lee's well-known vocalizations during his movie fights.

The message on the left says: "Thank you very much for the last year. Please continue to enjoy Berserk this year." The one on the bottom is unfortunately too hard to make out at this low resolution, and I (Aazealh) don't have a better image.

I can hear Puck vocalizing "GASHOUUUU" in my head, and I gotta say—it's pretty adorable. Thanks for all the details in this entry
