I have always been interested in queer history, and it's really frustrating to me trying to interact in queer spaces online where people just don't seem bothered to learn the truth. It's especially frustrating because I do live in a rural area and often times online is the only way we can find each other. Sometimes we're the only ones here for each other when struggling with homelessness, medical emergencies, isolation, etc. 3 friends ended up homeless directly as a result of COVID-19; 2 are now living with me and the 3rd is with a different friend. Now I have a household full of nonbinary people in the middle of nowhere Indiana. I get why younger people are more engaged by The Discourse, it does seem to provide an improved philosophical structure for their lives, but eventually I realized it was sucking the energy out of me I could be better spending on uplifting and supporting each other.
