One game or chapters?

I have been thinking about this issue a lot and frankly I haven't come to a conclusion yet. So once again I ask your guidance.
Would you prefer the game as one big game or several chapters?
The reason I'm asking this is that as my game grows, so does my worries. First of all, I'm worried the game will become too big for the game engine (RPG maker MV) to support. So I thought I would split it into chapters. for example if this chapter comes to an end and you leave the village. the next chapter will begin with new content and without the previous one. I know this sucks but as I don't really know how far I can push the engine, I'm considering this options. However, I have to bear in mind that the logistics of doing this is very complicated. for example how can I transfer players equipment and level ups to the new game chapter?
Anyway, I would like to hear your thoughts on this matter.

I did some research, there seems to be no limit to how big an RPG maker game could be. Performance wise if you overload the system with a lot of events and graphics to load at the same time it could hurt performance.

I'm sure there are some ways to transfer player configurations like level and items into the next build...maybe the savefile does that on its own...I have to hit the RPGmaker forums see what I can dig up.

If there is no other option than starting to have chapters soonish then so be it. Not a good outcome but better than rebuilding half the game at a later point due to massive technical problems. My idea would be that you add something in the MC's house that allows the player to pick their equipment from a list. Those who would like their previous equipment can have it, those who would like to cheat can get whatever they want. Ofc not the stuff from the patron tower. Those items can be accessed normally.^^
