They were a scourge, a race that denied the gifts of the gods, denied the gifts of magic, and denied the gifts of civilization. They lived entirely by the sword and the axe. Only the threat of the Dragon Queen could call this race together, and make them realize that while they bickered and reveled in their freedom from mortal and god, they had allowed beings greater than themselves to forge the chains that might shackle them. Human King united the tribes of humanity, and where the Heroes lead, his armies followed in their wake. Together they retook the devastated lands. When Salamander lay dead, his quest complete, and Human King lay on his pyre, his daughters sought something new to unite their people. One daughter believed that it was man's turn to rule, that only through conquest could Corona be forever safe. Another daughter looked to the north, and knew that dragons were not the only ancient beings who might threaten the lesser mortals. This same one took her followers with her to guard against them. In this, the two paths of humanity were set- those who would conquer and tame the world, and those who would guard and defend it.
