I find it fascinating what ages well and what ends up stinking like gross cheese. Especially what was/is considered "cute" and what is total cringe. And we're only at episode 5!

2025-09-24 05:15:45 +0000 UTCI would say here in season 1 the writers are still finding their groove, and most characters are just stereotypes. They haven't given Xander much to work with yet. It does get better. As a teenager in the 90s I certainly didn't notice any of that! But I think we were used to those tropes in TV so it didn't stand out. That and all the teenagers being played by much older actors! At the same time, even if the audience didn't notice creepy stalker behaviour or massive age differences in love interests (like the last ep!), for the most part the writers did know what they were doing and it was intentional. But even in these early eps you do get the unexpected twists, like the anointed one being a child, or the mantis lady going after virgin males.
