Book 2 notice

Note:

If you haven't read the final chapter, 216: Treasure Binge, then go down and read it first then come back here.

Hey ^_^

So, that concludes book 1. You really cannot imagine how happy I am to have completed it, and finally have him out that castle. I honestly was so tired of the goddamn castle. It was cool at first but yh, there’s a limit. I swear I only intended him to be there for like the first 120ish chapters, 140 max.

Err, anyway, overall I’m very happy with how castle arc wrapped up, and I'm really excited for the huge amount of cool shit I’ve planned for Book 2, so I’m just so stoked to finally be able to get to it all. I think you’ll all really like it.

Stuff you can expect: meeting actual Cultivators, pitting cyberpunk tech vs cultivation magic in a wider manner. Culture clashes, general insanity of cultivators being who they are, tournaments, auctions, robot armies, hornet people, more stuff about the People, Monster Hunter inspired stuff, Symbiote metas, etc etc. Plus I wanna do a whole lot of faction shenanigans on a much bigger scale where Nicolai is just one player amongst many.

Thanks for all your support and for reading the story!!

SCHEDULE NOTICE - ONE WEEK BREAK

After consideration, I’m going to pause uploads for 1 week. So this coming week will be skipped, then first chapter of book 2 goes live same time as usual on Monday the 24th March. Likewise when Royal Road version reaches end of book 1, there’s gonna be a 1 week break on there too.

This is mainly because I want to ensure there is a bit of space, mentally, for readers before going into book 2. A bit of time to build some anticipation rather than just rolling straight into it. Plus the extra week will be handy for me to make sure I keep up the writing.

Also, when I upload this same note/book 2 announcement on Royal Road, I’m going to include a bunch of questions like, what you want to see more of, what you want to see less of, favourite and least favourite moments, plus a poll on which were the best combat scenes. I’m not doing it here just because Patreon UI is kind of garbage plus I’d rather have all these answers/discussion in one place. When the final chapter is up on Royal Road, I’ll link you guys to the book 2 announcement page which will have these same details plus the questions, the poll. On that one there will also be a summary of book 1 and the state of Nicolai’s progression to date.

Finally, here is a teaser from chapter 1 of book 2:

---

Something or someone roughly human sized was about to emerge from the brush. His eyes flicked to the left and right as the rustling extended. Multiple someones.

The first of them stepped out from the dim undercanopy, and Nicolai saw them clearly. It was not an it but a he. A human. The man had long dark hair tied in a tail and piercing green eyes. He was shorter than average and wore spotless dark-blue robes engraved with silver patterns.

There was something up with his arm, visible to Nicolai’s Cultivators eyes, which were capable of seeing spiritual signatures. A kind of blur around it, like a faint, spiritual arm, larger in size, that existed around his normal arm. A moment later more emerged, all bearing a notable resemblance to the first in size, facial features and clothing. The same patterns were on all their robes. However, only the first had that strange spiritual blur around his arm.

The group paused, gazing at Nicolai. He felt a ripple through the Aura, and he saw their Soul Senses emerging from their bodies. They’d been Shelled, a method of hiding one’s Soul Sense and restraining any Aura ripples.

Cultivators. If this was all of them, they numbered nine. None of them held a gun or any other Earth tech.

The one in the middle with the arm drew his gaze, because that one had a Soul Sense more than twice the size of any of the others; twice the size of Nicolai’s. He knew what this meant, having learned it from Kleos, an old companion.

The man standing before him was an actual Tier 2 Cultivator, something he had yet to see in a human. Until this moment he had never seen a human higher than Tier 1. He was beginning to suspect this group hadn’t come from the castle he’d spawned in, which was now a ruin a few miles behind.

In fact he was beginning to think they weren’t even from Earth...

Oh my. binged whole book in two days. Such a ride. Looking forward for Nick to meet silkpants young masters and "please give me face" auctions! Honestly, his angle to all these troupes should be hillariouse

True_Jolly_Roger

Nope, when I started writing I expected it to be about half that long lmao

Jamie Duncan

Epic ending. Damn that was a long book 1. did you expect it to be 216 chapters long.

I'm just gonna chill on audible, its possible but not for a long time most likely... it would have to wait for the story to become more popular and a publisher to make an offer - if that day ever comes ;o. Personally, I have this belief that this story could end up being really big one day? Maybe? That's my dream anyway. Because I wrote this after reading a lot of progression fantasy, and I wrote it for people like me who have read a lot in this genre and want to read something which is still this genre, but a bit... more, if you get me. I felt that by now the audience must be ready for that kind of thing. But based on how its done on RR, most readers aren't quite there yet lol. But I do feel that as time passes, and people get bored of stories that are very samey, this one could grow more and more appealing - so in that distant future, I envision a publisher appearing with an audible offer. We'll see if it actually happens lol

Jamie Duncan

What about (bleargh) Audible? Got any publisher interest that will cover that stuff? I personally think it's wrecking the genre but there's a lot of money there for authors.

Steven C

Yeah there is that, I'm not certain what would be best tbh since Amazon audience is huge compared to RR... Can't make any promises b/c you never know how life goes, but I can't see myself ever dropping this story, so I wouldn't worry - I feel every author has a story in them that's kinda the main thing they always wanted to write about, and for me this is that story. I literally designed the world as a way to fit in everything that interests me and a lot of the really cool shit I have planned won't happen for ages, so I wanna get there and see it

Jamie Duncan

Are you still getting new readers on RR? I figure the books themselves will draw in a new audience. Also, when I see an author whose story I'm reading start a new story, I get real worried.

Steven C

I'm gonna leave it up on RR for now, I think once vol 2 is complete I'll start to think about putting it on amazon 🤔 tbh I still don't feel its reached saturation on RR, I've been super lazy with adverts and I also wonder if when I start releasing other stories, that might also get more readers to it... so it's gonna stay as it is on RR for probably another year at least and yeah I think I'll have to split it into 2 books at a minimum lol

Jamie Duncan

God damn it: I came over to Patreon to get my Monday fix before realizing... So is it time to start putting the first arc on Amazon? You'll probably have to split "Book 1" into multiple volumes.

Steven C

I think my two favourite combat scenes are 1. The prologue Zero-Twelve full mond meld scene. It is amazing and what got me fully invested in the story by showing the full potential that Nikolai has in this new world. 2. The fight against the three tier 2 soldier cyborgs. I really enjoyed the fight in general but it had two aspects I think elevated it above the others. The first was the character progression for Nikolai, using recognizing his group as a usedul asset and using them to finish the fight. The second was the wonderful writing for the weapons and bullets that really elevated the readers understanding of how Nikolai sees the world and why combat is so special to him. Not to mention the sheer entertainment value of Nikolai interacting more with the guns and bullets than the actual opponents. After all they can't kill him, but the bullet can, so od course that's who he laughs with.

Trasen56

Bravo Sir! Very satisfying ending. Tied up enough loose ends to keep us hooked, still so much to explore. I'm delighted that the team of people has shifted, and that Nicolai has the opportunity to explore himself in different way now. Can't wait to see where this all goes next.

Ariel

Congrats!

Jonathan with a G

Can't wait for book two, book one was a blast!

Zack Countler

Currently it's at 2,047, I'm guessing it'll be around 2,160 when finished? 😂 over half a million words

Jamie Duncan

Congrats 👏

신현준

Congrats! So, uh, how many RR pages did this whole thing end up as?

Steven C

Very cool. Speaking of Kleos, I hope we find out what becomes of him and Maric!
