Today is the first day of Summer Camp for my two kids (my youngest is a camper, my eldest works as a counselor), which means I'm entering the eight weeks of the year where they're occupied from 8am until almost 5pm, so quite a long work day for me. At the same time, work on my new graphic novel is very, very close to wrapped (though I've been saying that), not 100% of the way there, but near enough that I am not working on it a great deal anymore. So, I'm at kind of an interesting, exciting, and a tiny bit precarious moment. Lots of time to work, not totally sure what to work on.
I have plans brewing for a few things. First, complete work on a proposal for a new graphic novel. I have a very good pitch and one sample scene written, I need to create a second sample. That should be done this week.
Second, as I've mentioned in a previous post, I am strongly considering trying to crowdfund a book collecting some of my best cartoon essays and diary comics. I have no idea if it will pay off or not, but I've been very active on my Instagram the past month, trying to lay the groundwork and possibly build up a ready audience for such a thing there. In terms of getting new followers, things have been going good. Whether they'll all hop on board a crowdfunding project, well that remains to be seen. Hopefully I'll see a healthy conversion rate if/when I do launch something. This would be an awesome thing to try to pull together before Back to School!
Third, speaking of, this is probably a good time for me to overhaul and fix up my school visits and workshops website.
And fourth, I am going to try to write and sell new cartoon essays. I have one concept in mind that I plan on trying to put together by sometime next week. I will maybe post the pitch here once I assemble it and send it out.
Thanks as always for the support!
