I was very proud of my son's ruthless gameplay. It turns out that we may have made a small error in understanding the rules, apparently you can't play more than one helper card per turn, but I'll forgive a little kid who couldn't yet read for making that mistake. This event happened a while back, he's older now, but he's still into gaming. He's watching a lot of Chess playing videos on YouTube. What a nerd! I am going to get a locker here at the house so I can stuff him into it.
Stranger Things
A few months ago I posted a rough draft of a cartoon essay about Stranger Things that I was submitting to The New York Times Arts & Leisure section. I am pleased to report that they accepted it, with some revisions, and it'll be running in the paper at the end of this month. I'm working on finishing it up this week, and I will be producing a nice print version to mail to all members of the Monthly Minicomic Club before the end of June.
It sucks that over the past few years the New York Times has become more and more notorious for their bad journalistic editorial choices, as it's one of the few places I can submit cartoon essays to and get paid. I think I'm going to need to start emphasizing more that I'm making comics for the Arts & Leisure sections or the Sunday Book Review. Hopefully those two outlets don't carry quite the same stench of sanewashing our insane world as the front page often does.
