November Patreon Poll - To homebrew, or not to homebrew?
Added 2022-11-19 07:12:21 +0000 UTCHi! How are you?
We all love our fantasy tabletop RPGs here, right? So, over the years playing different systems I always thinking about how much should I change the system.
At first I changed A LOT of things, then I realised that it's really too daunting to tweak things here and there. And we all know about the specific kind of players, that always looking for some exploits.
Then, I did most things by the book, but at the end you realise that books can't really describe each situation your party in, and sometimes it doesn't make sense in context.
And with time, you know your party too well, so you let some things pass, even if it's not by the rulebook. You just do what you and your party like more.
So, today I want to know about your experience with D&D/Pathfinder/any other system. Do you play strictly by the rules, or you homeruling a lot? Or maybe, you developed your own system?
I'll really appreciate your opinios in the comments too!
As for me, we like to play D&D 5e more than any other system, but I feel that the system is really battle-oriented. I have no problem with that, but sometimes I just want the good written rules that helped with more easier, but still engaging combat. For the record, now I'm using the mix of Dungeon World/Fate combat, so, for example, I let my players do cool things if it's meaningful for them. Or, honestly, just really smart and cool.
Sometimes I don't use the Initiative, or HP, or damage rolls at all (again, if it's comfortable for the players, and I'm not standing in the way of using their awesome abilities).
So, what about you?

2022-11-20 03:44:49 +0000 UTCI use a lot of my own homebrew content, but I also bring in homebrew content from others and mix in other systems in my campaigns. I find this allows me to better balance the different play styles and scenarios at my table.
