Didn't see anyone else mention it in the comments, but Eclipse was a british racing horse that raced in 1769-1770. He won 18/18 races and had to be retired after 17 months because no one wanted to bet on any other horses than him. "Eclipse first, the rest nowhere" was first used by his second owner (if I understood my sources correctly) before betting on Eclipse and using the winnings to buy him in one of his first races.

The anime released first. Cygames did a multi media strategy by releasing umamusume in different medium in around the same time. Maybe first seasons had some different main animation studio but still owned by Cygames.

So to play a bad guy, they just made up queen berry lol 2. S2 is more popular because the drama gets very heavy. I've seen some suggest s2 is one of the best seasons of a sports anime ever. Though Cinderella gray has gotten a lot of love too. 3. Don't dig too deep into real careers, it'll ruin the show. But afterwards, a lot of noteworthy horses have vids explaining the similarities and differences.
