This is the first episode were story elements were changed. In the old show Anne gets insulted by Gilbert and she hit him with the slate, but after that she left the school with Diana and talked the whole thing out with her instead of going in to the forest alone. The next morning the kids were in the forest and Anne again in her dream world made a flower crown and was late because of that. She and the 4 boys ran to the school but not crashing in the teacher, they were simply too late. As she has to sit next to Gilbert he tries say sorry by putting a heart shaped lollipop on her desk but she just throws it onto the floor and stamps on it. At the end of the day she leaves the school. Anne stayed quite long out of school and learned from Marilla cooking and baking. She messes up a visit of guests by letting pudding sauce getting bad when she forgets to cover the glass because she was thinking of Gilbert. After she goes back to school she asks the teacher to seat her next to the best other female student. Anne and Gilbert advance to 5th class like Diana. Anne and Matthew have a quite funny discussion about courting which makes Matthew quite uncomfortable. Anne states she does not want have a lot of lovers just one that is right. In the old show the situation with the sick child is much more dramatic and Anne is shown much more grown up by doing much more works and also keeping the terrified Nanny and Diana under control. The teacher in the old show is shown as much worse, he is quite the snob and not able to keep the kids under control, even beating one.

2025-05-01 22:20:55 +0000 UTCYou are right with the fast paced, we are at end of ep 18 of the old show. The rush is sadly also hiding a little Anne's dark past. This show seems to be the much brighter approach like the live action series. Until now we did not miss a lot of story plot but now I think I have to give some context as you also seemed a little confused. The show cuts a lot of Matthew content. Matthew and Anne have kind of a special relationship in the old show. Matthew is very antisocial and has almost a manic fear of women and never married because of it. Anne is the first female besides his sister to approach him. There was a lot more chitchat between them. He also hired a male worker to convince Marilla to keep Anne. Same to Anne, besides her talkativeness she does not really connect either, she told Marilla that when she lived in the previous family with the alcoholic Father (she made some ominous comments about that even bad people when they try to be good should not be hated), the only fried she had was her reflection in the glass of a cupboard. She makes a lot of such little hints when she talks with Marilla which also were cut out a lot. Additionally her low self esteem which results in her short temper as soon as someone mention her hair.
