Second city is where Dan and John met They were both w/ Second City in the early 70s. That being said, I wish they would have done more films together, they had that chemistry that is just so fun. John was also originally offered a role in Ghostbusters as Louis which Dan and Harold wrote specifically for John but he said he didn't understand the part the way Dan and Harold wanted it so he left the project and it was given to Rick Moranis

Dan Akroyd (Roman) was part of the first cast for Saturday Night Live and John Candy (Chet) was on the Canadian sketch comedy show Second City Television (SCTV.) Some other John Candy films are Armed and Dangerous, Who's Harry Crumb? and Uncle Buck. In one of the early drafts of the script, Roman finds a old gold coin treasure at the bottom of the old mine while rescuing his twin daughters and so all his money problems are gone. This would result in Roman buying the Loon's Nest cabin, sharing some of the treasure with Chet and promising each other they would vacation at the lake together every summer, in which Chet would be making 'no way' faces behind Roman's back. For unknown reasons this ending was altered.
